    Members Turntables

Come on Ari (@fredeb), you requested this thread. It's only fair you should participate and share your deck with the group. That goes for the rest of the members too, let us see what you are playing with. I will add one more to help motivate you all into sharing. I purchased my Thorens TD-124...

    Members Turntables

I bought my first Thorens deck in 2012. It was a stock-standard Thorens TD-150 with a TP-13 tonearm but, it had a generic headshell with a decent Shure M44C cartridge and stylus. It also had a smoky brown tinted dust cover. The first thing I did was to acquire a Thorens TP-50 headshell and...

@optimus, yes that is the original statically balanced, s-shaped tonearm with which the deck was sold. I speak under correction but, I think it is a Japanese Jelco or Jelco derivative. At any rate, it is a very good tonearm and the deck flew under the radar and was underrated in my opinion.

    Members Turntables

A short while ago in another thread, @fredeb (Ari) requested that we share our turntables with the forum. Since nobody has come forward as yet, I thought I would get the ball rolling and hopefully other members will be forthcoming. I purchased my first turntable in 1981. It was a Sansui SR-222...

    Speaker covers

I speak under correction but, as far as I know, it is only the professional speaker market that makes covers for speakers due to the fact that those speakers are constantly being transported around from gig to gig and thus need the protection. Home speakers tend to be placed correctly and left...

    Moya M1- Vivid on Steroids

A poor presentation all round including the choice of music. More inspirational music would have done wonders for engaging the audience whilst showing off the capabilities of the speakers. A track like "Sadness" by Inigma could have shaken the room and had feet tapping along. Toni Braxton's...

    Moya M1- Vivid on Steroids

Just had a listen to the Moya and frankly, it does not sound any better than the Creative Labs external speakers on my laptop. 😂 :ROFLMAO: :devilish:

    Michell TecnoDec VS Rega P8

I am old school and would rather stick to an authentic deck like Thorens TD-124 / TD-125, Linn Sondek LP12, Garrard 301 or Technics SP10 in a nice wooden plinth that looks substantial and classy. These newer "space-age" decks just look gimmicky.

Sharing my Valve Amp for comment.

Very nice indeed. Simple, elegant design that is a pleasure to look at and I am sure it sounds as good as it looks. I like functional art. :)

    Technics RS-1520

To me the "gold" switches etc look cheap and kitch. It almost looks like a toy rather than a serious piece of audio kit. Silver would have looked more attractive and lent an air of class. Just my opinion.

    That time again.

You really have to be brain dead if you are considering ANY vaccinations at this stage of the game. Do some proper research and you will find some of the most prominent virologists who firmly believed in vaccines and helped to develop them, have had a change of heart and realized that they too...

    Frequently Misspelled audiophile terms

Which is why I have no patience for poepols like Steve Hofmeyr when they are fighting to "preserve" the Afrikaans language. Surely if you care about the language and want to preserve it, it should start with speaking it properly instead of the English / Afrikaans tossed salad dished up by the...

    Frequently Misspelled audiophile terms

It is becoming all too prevalent to see ads offering items "for sell" instead of for sale. Unfortunately this is the result of converging factors including people who's first language is not English, the poor education in this country and the BEE political system resulting in ignorant, poorly...

    Adding LED lighting to valves

Not a fan of the green glowing valves in McIntosh, looks kitch and cheap. The standard, natural amber glow of valves is far more appealing.

    Lindemann

I have no problem if someone wants to add streaming services into the mix as another source of content but, only a fool dumps their CDs and other media in favour of only having the steaming option. You are essentially paying for the same content over and over because you pay the subscription fee...

    Flaunt the Audio Imperfection

@AlleyCat, echos my sentiments exactly with one exception, I was never a fan of the static, crackles and pops on records as I always found them distracting from my pleasure. I was actually pondering this very topic earlier today and thinking how much I enjoyed my music when I was younger and...

    Spikes vs Cups vs Pucks

You don't have to settle for one or the other. You can have the best of both by starting with a base plinth on rubber pucks. On the plinth you can then have spikes in cups which you find aesthetically pleasing. Simply ensure that you have a thin rubber lining under the cups to prevent them...
