I agree with the grease on the spindle. I had a av receiver where the volume control would not adjust. Took it apart, used a bit of spirits and gave it a good clean. Used a small amount of the grease I had on hand to coat the spindle, assembled and it was as good as new. Felt a teeny weeny bit...
