So I must be a sucker - another Philips on the bench. While I was restoring the Philips radio, one of my employees took great interest. He said his late father's one was at his home back in Hammanskraal, and he brought it here for me to have a look. It is a Philips F4VZ 25A/R. Searching the internet reveals exactly diddly-squat about this thing. Did Philips South Africa design and build their own units? I would have expected badge engineering and maybe some slight reingineering, but not different designs.

Quite interesting is that it has a reverb tank - something I've never seen outside of a guitar amp or organ. It is a Gibbs, which according to the sticker is/was a subsidiary of Hammond. There is a transistor circuit tacked on to drive the reverb.

It seems quite a simple/cheap unit - only 8 valves. Not sure if I'll have a go at it - if I can't find a schematic I don't think I'll be keen.

Anyway, some photos:
