I have purchased a new pair of B&W 606 S3 speakers, coming from the 606 S2 Anniversary edition.

I am sure others would like to know how they compare to the older model. I only have 8 hours of playback on the speakers so I am sure they will improve all round over the next few weeks.

Visually they look very similar except for the new binding posts, tweeter grill and shifting the tweeter closer to the main driver. Most of the changes have been borrowed from the 700 series.

Where the 606S2 sounded leaner with an aggressive treble at times, the 606 S3 sounds bigger with a fat midrange. The soundstage sounds far bigger with greater depth.

The treble is far easier to live with but the 606 S3’s will still need careful partnering to avoid exciting the treble.

There is a far better integration between the bass driver and the treble making voices sound fuller and more natural.

The bass is fuller sounding but still remaining tight.

I will update the thread once I have some more hours on the speakers.

Definitely a worthwhile upgrade provided your equipment is up to the task.

System:

Marantz SA14S1 SE player
Primare I22 amplifier - 80 watts
Kimber Hero interconnects
Transparent mains cable on Primare
Kimber mains cable on SACD player
Vanden Hul D-352 speaker cable
Furman mains conditioner
