Hello Everyone

Newbie to the forum

I have had a pair of edifier R1280DB for a while that I had been using in my lounge for a few years. I had been saving up so that I can upgrade to a home theatre set up. I saw a deal for a combo set up for:

Receiver: Pioneer VSX 935 7.2
Front speakers: Bentley acoustics RF-2
Centre: Bentley acoustics RC-2
Surround: Bentley acoustics RA-1

I read many positive things about the Bentley Acoustics 100 series on this forum and only saw good things mentioned. I could not find any places in the Durban area that I could go and demo Bentley acoustics speakers. So I thought I'd take a gamble and purchase these as the reviews were great and deal was a good price for me to get started into a home theatre set up.

I set up the RF-2 speakers only so that I could A/B them to my old Edifier R1280DB bookshelf speakers. I was very surprised. The RF-2 speakers had quite a bit of sibilance, mids were recessed and muddy. The little bookshelf speaker seemed to have better detail and clarity. The RF-2 speakers definitely had better bass, it was richer and fuller. The RF-2 sound also filled the room better. (lounge is about 35 squares.) Besides those 2 things the little edifier seemed better in every other aspect.

Is it possible that the receiver is just really poor at stereo? I can't believe that speakers that retail for R 3,000 can outperform Floor standing speakers that retail for R 15,000.

I want to give these speakers a fair chance. Anyone have a different experience with these speakers? Does the receiver have some default setting that ruins the sound?

Any advice or help will be appreciated.
