Sony STR 1050 receiver packed up after two months.

It's two months to the day since this unit was delivered. A loud pop sound made me believe that there was a power outage as the TV had a blank screen but this was not the case. DSTV, blu-ray, TV and my CD player are all routed through the receiver. Now nothing works. Do I have to disconnect the...

Does keeping AV receiver on prolong its like?

I was wondering whether there exists a small dust extractor that could be mounted above the unit.

Does keeping AV receiver on prolong its like?

I live in Durban near the sea. If my Marantz was prone to corrosion then they should have a warning, something like "not suitable for use near the coast"

Does keeping AV receiver on prolong its like?

I have recently replaced my Marantz SR 5003 with a Sony STR - DN 5010 receiver. The Marantz packed up within four years due to "corrosion on all boards" according to the Marantz workshop. I opened it up and could find no signs of corrosion, only dust. I would like to know if my Sony would last...

Viewing 3D videos on a normal TV.

I think there are supposed to be red and cyan, which is between blue and green. I also checked out sweets but could not tell if the wrappings are see thru or not and they have printing on them.

Viewing 3D videos on a normal TV.

I have downloaded a number of you tube videos and documentaries and watch them on my non 3D TV using my home made 3D glasses, one lens red, the other blue, painted with felt tip marking pens. The problem is that the ink cannot be painted evenly over the lens which is cut from a smooth acetate...

No more 3D from Blu-ray disc.

I have just started watching Ocean Wonderland again and once again no pop outs. My TV is hidden when the screen is pulled down. The image appears on both when the TV is on. I switched off the TV and now the pop outs are there again. I always seem to learn the hard way.

No sound - PC connected to AV receiver via HDMI.

All sorted. Thanks to all for your inputs. My mate found an audio setting on the receiver set to off. Changed it to auto.

No sound - PC connected to AV receiver via HDMI.

Running XP. I was watching 3D online videos on my screen through the projector and there was sound. It's only through the TV where there is no sound.  "Nvidia high definition audio" is the default playback device.

No sound - PC connected to AV receiver via HDMI.

I have connected my Nvidia Geforce GTS 450 graphic card with a HDMI cable connected to my AV receiver. My TV is also connected to the receiver with a HDMI cable. My problem is: the PC is set to "clone" i.e my TV displays what is shown on my monitor but I get no sound coming through to my...

No more 3D from Blu-ray disc.

Unfortunately he has gone back to England.

No more 3D from Blu-ray disc.

I have just sorted out the problem by simply removing the blu-ray disc from the tray and disconnecting the portable hard drive from the USB port. On returning the disc to the tray 3D was back in all its glory. I did nothing else besides this. I am relieved that it is now working but wish I knew why.

No more 3D from Blu-ray disc.

There is a button on the projector to switch between 2D and 3D. That is all that has to be changed when playing a blu-ray disc. As I said, about a week ago the 3D was great in this movie and no one has been fiddling with the settings since.

No more 3D from Blu-ray disc.

Ocean Wonderland 3D blu-ray has great pop outs. Fish swimming between the screen and your face, a sea snake swims right up to your face. I got a visitor and decided to share this experience with them. Unfortunately there are now no more pop outs, everything remains on the screen. I had changed...

    3D Blu-ray movies format confusion.

Here's an example of my dilemma. "Hubble IMAX 2D/3D combo" costs R168. "Hubble IMAX 3D costs R401. Both are Zone B and both are blu-ray.

    3D Blu-ray movies format confusion.

I am aware that we are in region B but remain confused as to what blu-ray option I should buy, based on what I said in my original post.

    3D Blu-ray movies format confusion.

I have been viewing "Hubble 3d" prices on Kalahari and Takealot and what I find is confusing. Prices vary substantially. IMAX 2D/3D combos and DVD/blu-ray combos seem to be generally cheaper than "IMAX Blu-ray 3D" discs. Does the video quality differ between the two? Some are advertised as...

    Are 3D glasses compatible?

    Thanks Windshear. Suggestions noted.

    Are 3D glasses compatible?

Active 3D glasses vary in prices and I was wondering whether I have to buy Epson glasses to match my projector or whether there are cheaper glasses which will work just as well.
