Interpak date stamps (and help solving an AC/DC mystery)

Out of curiosity, what are the numbers?

Interpak date stamps (and help solving an AC/DC mystery)

The AC/DC mystery isn't quite solved. Benjy's story is that he created a run of the custom colored Let There Be Rock LPs in 1977, yet the records have the stamps with 80, 82 and 84. I just looked at mine and it was published by WEA Records (which became Tusk in 1986 according to Discogs).

Interpak date stamps (and help solving an AC/DC mystery)

Wow, this is so strange. I don't understand it. Here's the Saxon one from eBay. You can't see it real well, but look at the bottom of the back cover near the hand. I contacted the seller and verified that the date-like number was there. ...

Interpak date stamps (and help solving an AC/DC mystery)

That is almost unbelievable to me. This is a such a mystery.  Every one of the AC/DC records I got from South Africa (and printed by Interpak) has the embossed number on it. Every AC/DC collector I talked to found the number on their records. I also found it on some records by Gary Numan and...

Interpak date stamps (and help solving an AC/DC mystery)

Me three! Thank you for the great information. Can't wait to see if you can find someone who worked at Interpak. That should be extremely enlightening! Assuming their memories are good. :  )

Interpak date stamps (and help solving an AC/DC mystery)

It an imprint stamp, upside down, on the back lower portion of the sleeve. You wouldn't even notice it's there unless you're really looking for it. I'm quite sure it was done by the manufacturer of the sleeve. There is a 7th digit that appears to always be a 1 or 0. On some sleeves that number...

Interpak date stamps (and help solving an AC/DC mystery)

Thanks. I've already emailed him in the past, and he is definitely a nice guy. I'm just questioning his memory of events, and how it could possibly line up with the stamps on the back of the sleeves. And it would be almost a miracle that South Africa was releasing AC/DC albums in 1977, when...

Interpak date stamps (and help solving an AC/DC mystery)

Lots of good info, thank you, but does anyone know the meaning of the number stamp on the back of Interpak sleeves? (Artone didn't do that)  Is it a date stamp for sure? We've seen some that don't correspond to a day an/or month, like 54 11 80, but the year seems to match up in most cases I've...

Interpak date stamps (and help solving an AC/DC mystery)

Hi, I'm from the US and new to this forum. I found it while trying to do some research on Interpak South African pressings. I saw several mentions of people saying Interpak pressings are junk and not collectible, but I can tell you that to AC/DC collectors, Interpak made one of the most...
