    When did you join?

Much when I registered, looking up the member list I was member number 6.  :o Mainly because Kay told me about the place as we knew each other from another forum.  Tend to mainly be a lurker who comments infrequently, usually on the classifieds to say "MINE, PM incoming".  Don't really have...

    The Whisky thread

Was down the Cape Town restauranting, so finally did the Sedgewicks tour (they produce 3 Ships, Bains, odd single cask in their own name etc).  Brilliant tour, the tour leader was going into their costings, their technologies, etc.  Being a whisky nerd have done 30 something (stopped counting a...

Magnepan's new Little Ribbon Speaker (LRS) review on Stereophile

Agreed - thanks for the opportunity to hear the LRS - a complete bargain.

    Jazz FM radio station

Thanks for that.  Will take a listen.  Also no idea on local stations though (have my stereo system linked to a media server so no real issue for me, just play from the Jazz24 site).

Please count me in, would love to hear them.

    The Whisky thread

Distell bought out Burn Stewart which included Bunnahabhain.  As Andy has spent time on Islay learning the trade in the past, I think he enjoys spending time there as you never hear him talk about visits to, or whats going on at any of the other Burn Stewart distilleries.  Also, have been...

Yes - had it at the distillery a month ago - not to my tastes (I like lots of peat), but good enough that I ordered a bottle for the whisky/gin wall. Bunnahabhain has improved quite a bit in the last few years under the leadership of Andy Watts (who runs three ships etc).

Still my favorite bourbons (don't like them in general though) and a steal at the price.  Also much loved as feeder stock for barrels on Islay, with the majority of the the Kilchoman stock sitting in casks with BT labels.  Oh - and Bunnahabhain Eirigh Na Greine on sale at Onedayonly today.

It is good if not great.  Lovely nose though. This weekend nearly finished a Lagavulin 2017 Jazz Festival and Talisker Distillers Edition.  Both exceptional.

    Amp service/repairs (Marantz)

Seeing PAPPA3 is selling some MA6100's reminds me I have some (plus some MA700's) that need to be serviced.  Quick search on the site doesn't give up details on who is best for Marantz servings (other than HFX).  Any recommendations?

Whiskyexchange does ship to SA.  So $173.75 excluding customs costs.  Agreed on Select being pretty average.  To me the whole appeal of Laphroaig is the distinctive taste, toning it down is counter intuitive.

At that price bracket my money would go to the Compass Box Great King Street Glasgow Blend, but it is all down to taste. My daily is Laphroaig Quarter Cask so the 3Ships 10YO  is more to my palate than a Macallan.

Quite different to the PX expression and to my taste much better for it.  At R500 its a sensible option for a daily drinking whisky.

Well yes.  Was totally shocked at the sound quality from the DIY stand.

Suppose I am being gauche again. I go to a show to be 'wowed' by equipment I cant afford, or wouldnt be allowed to have in the house because its ugly and takes up to much room.   If I want to go look for something for one of the systems I will go audition likely items specifically. You are...

Extremely.  What Kay is to nice to say is that I am one of those extremely loud people who has no issue in telling the world exactly how he feels about anything. And unlike the other comments, I thought that there was not enough top end items. OK - comments? 1) The organisation was terrible...

Ah.  Some very nice little projects there.   Despite the rest of the show being a disaster.
