Crafty Those components look like the work of Electrocomp.  I wanna sometime compare the components we got through them.  I really didn't get any of the caps I wanted, except for the low ESR Hitanos.  Those were the only caps that were supplied correct.  The polyprops they were bloody useless...

Ahhhh  it was the darn sound card. Swapped the channels and the crackle swapped right along with it. Solved!!! And now I have an extra channel.  tested.  working.  Bwahahahahahahahahaha!

Yip, but lets save one last hope - maybe, just maybe, the sound card (M-AUDIO - Audiophile 2496) is the source of the crackle.  Just because it's brand new and I haven't noticed the same crackle on 128 ohm headphones does not mean it's not there driving through the 50k ohm input of an audio amp...

OK my crackle is back and now on a brand new amp channel. Sigh.  Back to the drawing board with debugging.
