    Ster Kinekor upgrade

SK get my vote for the effort they make in upgrading their cinemas. In some cases the volume is a bit much (like Irene's main theater), but generally I like the experience at most of their cinemas.

Does a fast, quiet BD player exist for 2K?

I was set to pull the trigger on a Samsung BD-E5900, then found reviews saying it's noisy. Then I started searching and saw that Sony's BDP-S490 is a bit cheaper (albeit with no Wifi), but I can't find many reviews of this creature. Is it just Sony's version of Samsung's cheapie E5500? The main...

if I had an unlimited budget this xmas I would by.....

Nothing too hectic for me - just a matched set of separates (heck Marantz would make me happy), perhaps a pair of GX200's or thereabout and a 4-bedroom house to allow me to enjoy that lot undisturbed. Oooh! And a big fricken couch! :BWAHAHAH:

    Advice on Bookshelf speakers

Speaking from a near-total noob perspective, I'd say any of those would sound great to various people. You'd really need to try them out yourself and preferably in your own room, to know which suits your ears.

    Are We Losing It?.....

This bit concerns me a little. Capitalism has driven the younger generation away from the art and the craft of quality goods. Instead of planning ahead and saving up for quality goods, people would rather grab the shiny, cheaper stuff that is more often replaced when something breaks. Again...

    Starter av receiver (Hdmi)

I went the "entry-level" AVR + bookshelf route recently, grabbing a Marantz NR1402 on an end-of-line special. I paired it with Wharfedale 10.2 bookshelves and an SW150 sub. It sounded way better than the ages-old hifi I had our HTPC and Xbox360 hooked up to. Then I added a 10CS center speaker...

    Which HTPC?

Zotac H67-ITX (I liked the built-in Wifi) Intel I3-2100T 2x2Gb DDR3-1600 1.5Tb Seagate Barracuda Green 5900RPM HDD Lian Li PC-Q11 Coolermaster Silent Pro M 600 I battled to install Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 and XBMCbuntu and then I discovered Openelec. Introductions Thread

Thx for the welcome Heh, here come the temptations right from the start! The plan for now is to get sorted with a pair of bookshelf speakers and a sub and grow into 5.1 as our space allows. As a start I'll probably go for MA BX2's or Wharfedale 10.2's and a suitable sub (Pappa3's SW150 sale...

    Introductions Thread

Hullo folks, The name's Clement, a coder (yup, IT) living in Pta and recently managed to acquire my very first dedicated AV receiver to pipe audio from the HTPC and Xbox in our tiny lounge. Let's say I've been "fond" of quality audio for a long time, but had to make do with the basics. Some day...
