Hard to argue against Pulitzer and Nobel winners, so Kendrick Lamar and Bob Dylan for sure. Personally I love the stories John Bon Jovi and Adam Duritz (Counting Crows) tell with their lyrics. That's my 4c worth..:

I like music that tells stories I can relate to. Bon Jovi and Counting Crows comes to mind. I like singer/songwriters who can play an instrument. Music with meaning, feeling, emotion and haunting melodies ala David Gray and Michael Kiwanuka. I like music that takes me back to the time and place...
