Just some odd AVR casual observations / questions - Yamaha RX-A860

Ju_dy@RT I don't even own a pair of Bluetooth headphones. :)  Regarding MusicCast, from what I read, it is only beneficial if you have other MusicCast devices so that one can do whole house audio, but it sounds like a great system. Thanks for the heads up on the "gap" :)  Yeah, it does make...

Just some odd AVR casual observations / questions - Yamaha RX-A860

Hi folks, I recently pulled the trigger and upgraded to a Yamaha RX-A860 (Thanks Stormy Norman). I upgraded from a Yamaha RX-V795a which at the end of this year, would be 20 years old.  Yep, believe it (kinda embarrassed to admit this here - LOL). But nevertheless, it is great to finally have...

HD - Distribution, Why not use HD Modulator? Questions on this

I was actually looking at the Edision device last night which I am considering if I have to import.  It will definitely do the job and the Amazon reviews are very positive.

HD - Distribution, Why not use HD Modulator? Questions on this

Chris, as mentioned 2 posts back, I did enquire with SpaceTV, but hoping to find any other places that sell them in South Africa. My last resort is to ask somebody to bring one back from the UK where I can order one at half the price.

HD - Distribution, Why not use HD Modulator? Questions on this

Hi BrandduR, I am virtually in the same boat as you, but in my case, an HD modulator is the only option since I already have coax installed in the house.  I called SpaceTV a few days ago and the modulator is about R5,000 which is VERY steep. Did you by any chance find any alternative HD...

HD in my pub and the audio to my amp. Ideas?

Hi folks, Just an update. On the video side, I found this product by Stellar Labs.  See the YouTube video - https://youtu.be/c22NzB8DUvo It is $99 US for the transmitter and receiver each which I didn't think was too bad.  Pity that I don't have a buddy going over to the US any time soon as...

HD in my pub and the audio to my amp. Ideas?

Hi scrarfussi, The stereo amp and the TV are in inside the pub room itself, but across from each other +- 4m apart.  If I had to lay cable, that would be around 10m of cable around the edge of the room and it will look crap! Yep, I also need HD to that TV  .. see the original post for details.

HD in my pub and the audio to my amp. Ideas?

That 4m is across the room.  Running a cable is not an option.  It must be wireless and in this day and age, I'm sure there must be a wireless solution. The decoder is in the lounge which is far away from the pub room.

HD in my pub and the audio to my amp. Ideas?

Hi Chris, On the video part, yep an HDMI splitter is something that I'd need, but I'd also need to convert the HDMI to coax to feed into the coax and then on the receiving side, convert the coex back to HDMI. On the audio side, I couldn't find anything on the Ellies site, besides an A/V...

HD in my pub and the audio to my amp. Ideas?

Hi folks, I have a room leading to my thatched braai area.  I put in a small pub in that room as to extend the entertainment area to encapsulate the thatch and the pub. My thatch already has speakers installed which I connect to a stereo amp that I hook up when I need music.  The amp isn't...

HDMI -> HDMI / optical split

Hi folks I have a Yamaha RX-V795a home theature receiver which is around 16 years old which I really would like to replace, but the cost of a new receiver is around R14,000 +- which is something I cannot afford at all.  My current devices (DSTV Explora, Apple TV 3, Mede8er, PS3 all have optical...

Technics SL-210 - where can I buy a stylus, belt, etc

Hi folks, Finally, after moving into our new house 3 months ago, I finally unpacked my Technics SL-210 turntable and set it up ready to do duty in my office / man-cave. :) Now I need to get a stylus and possibly a belt for it. Does anybody know where in Cape Town I can buy a new stylus and...

    Logitech Harmony 1

hehehehe.  I think if I wrote this post by hand, it would of been much, much worse!  (and probably funny at the same time).

    Logitech Harmony 1

The Harmony 1 is worth it 100%.  The best investment I've made in my home entertainment system since my TV and even my 3rd old can use it. The *only* negative I have with this remote is that the coloured buttons that you find on your DSTV remote (red, green, yellow and blue) are not physical...

Advice : Stereo amp and speakers

Hi folks, I would like to get myself a stereo amp and speakers.  Reason is that everytime I want music outside when we have friends over and entertain, I have to lag one of my Mission speakers from my home entertainment system outside and extend the cable in doing so. I would rather prefer to...

    Rear speaker cabling question

Well folks, it is all done and dusted.  I could not make it to Bright's on Friday, but went to Builders Warehouse on Saturday morning.  I found Clear Adhesive which is sold in a packet of 3 tubes - white w/ green lines.  So I thought I'd give this a shot since I was not going to drive all the...

    Rear speaker cabling question

"Telkom glue" now I've heard it all.  hehehe.  Would they know what I'm talking about if I ask for "Telkom glue"?  Thanks for the idea.  I think I'll take a quick drive to Bright's tomorrow.  I'll also look out for Securistik. I tried to use hotmelt this evening to start with the wiring, but...

    Rear speaker cabling question

I got the cable yesterday at Zakspeed.  I went for the 0.2mm ripcord which is exactly what I wanted - not the 0.5mm which is standard "speaker" cable.  I measured 10m last night and plugged one of my rears into my amp and of course, as expected, the sound came through perfectly.  I wouldn't use...

    Rear speaker cabling question

I might take the 18m one down to 14m due to not having to go across a sliding door above, but below, but hey, lets see how this works out in any case.
