Not really Mafioso...as I mentioned I went there to see and listen to speakers which I couldn't audition in-store (the only pair in JHB is being reviewed by AVSA). Nothing wrong with big ups to a good host...but there will always be skeptics! I wouldn't mind spending my days evaluating AV gear...

    AVSA Studios

I must thank Joel Kopping for hosting me at the AVSA studios. It's not often you walk into an audition room of such a high standard as the ones in AVSA and spent a few minutes listening to great hifi and sweet music. I did just that today (took a break from mourning Tata) and what an experience...

Why car audio is always behind the curve?

Agree with naughty: try listening to fine music with a glass of 18 yr scotch single malt, comfy couch, lights dimmed in car - JPMD will give you a courtesy weekend stay at Hillbrow SAPS. I dont even understand why car audio discussions don't have their own section in this forum - too specialised...

    Buying from Loot.co.za

Correct. And the SQ for UK albums tend to be better than local and US. Anyone used Wantitall? They are worst of the bunch based on experience. Kalahari customer service is still the best (Bidvest owned), despite poor product variety (rare albums). Why aren't there online vinyl retailers  in this...

"24/192 Downloads - Why they make no sense!!"

http://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html we're probably being taken for a ride with 24bit/192khz downloads...still need to read and re-read the article.

...another Xavian speakers review in AVSA

interesting...what was the weak link and which speaker did you use a benchmark? i guess a speaker is more than the sum of its parts.

...another Xavian speakers review in AVSA

Anyone using Xavian speakers currently? How does it compare to other speakers you owned before?

    jazz music.....

while on jazz and music appreciation, back in 2010 i attended the standard bank joy of jazz in newtown - the show was headlined by chris botti, lala hathaway, four play, etc. chris botti's performance was brilliant but unfortunately the patrons showed no interest whatsover - before he played...

    jazz music.....

why the strong preference for smooth jazz - broadly categorised? what about something a bit more avantgarde? like Christian Scott's recent double lp, robert clasper, roy hargrove, etc

    AVSA buyer's guide

I agree with Dennis. The older buyers guide was far more useful the last 2 editions. I valued the older editions because I was being able to see products that can be bought locally, price comparison across brands and summarised specs. This helped a lot when budgeting for an item and also...
