    Some Estate questions

Firstly, my condolences. Agreed, they will charge a percentage fee irrespective of how much work is involved. I was executor for both my parent's estates and I subcontracted the work out to a firm of accountants and got the work done for about 30% of what a bank would have charged. However...

    Denon or Onkyo Avr?

My only other suggestion is for you to audition an Anthem MRX 720 prior to buying. A little more expensive and a few less amplification channels, but in my opinion well worth considering. Their room EQ system is amazing.

    Denon or Onkyo Avr?

I would recommend Denon, primarily due to the Audyessy room EQ. Depending on your budget, their may be other options as well.

Hi Everyone, building the audio setup I always wanted (Denon with Monitor Audio)

Always wonderful to start building a new home theatre! Even if the space is small, bookshelf speakers do not have the low range extension for a fully satisfying home theatre experience (in my opinion.) Even a small sub will help a lot. The Monitor Audio Bronze range is a great value offering...

Advice on an audio setup for an open plan TV room

Room configuration is often a challenge. However, it is usually easier to change equipment than it is to change a house. As an aside I run an Anthem AVM 60 in a even larger open plan area and I think it sounds pretty good, provided you are in the "sweet spot." Not as good as a dedicated and...

Advice on an audio setup for an open plan TV room

Hi Alpine, Where are you based? If you are happy to go second hand, I fully agree with reeman regarding the Paradigm Studio series, they are amazing. I would be a little wary of the Studio 100's as they require a powerful amp to drive them properly which does become expensive. With the right...

Advice on an audio setup for an open plan TV room

Hi there, As you mostly listen to music I would start with a receiver and 2 speakers and build from there. I find that simulated surround sound is gimmicky and a waste of time (in my opinion.) I have had a number of Denon products over the years and do recommend them. The newer version of the...

New guy needs some urgent Hi-Fi help.

As to speakers, are you looking for floorstanders or bookshelves?

New guy needs some urgent Hi-Fi help.

To an extent this depends on the different manufacturers, but while this is generally true, it is also tends to be more expensive. An integrated amp option I would recommend you listen to prior to making up your mind is the Anthem Integrated 225 stereo amp. This has now been discontinued but...

    HDMI 4K cable

Hi, What are the two items you are trying to connect? The best cable in the world cannot improve a signal, it can only prevent degradation and interference. The higher the quality of your source the more relevant a better cable becomes.

    HDMI ARC

I stand corrected, I was getting confused between DD+ and lossey Atmos versus true lossless atmos over ARC.

    HDMI ARC

With regards to the cable issue, while it doesn't make much sense to me, I had a similar intermittent problem. The issue for me was that although it was a high quality HDMI cable it was very old and did not support the latest 2-way communication properly. I switched to a new 18gbs cable and the...

    HDMI ARC

Some of the 2017 TV's and AVR's now support lossless audio via ARC,  but that is very recent and a lot of those models are not yet in SA.

    Audio System Upgrade or replace

Hi Nilo, My approach to home audio is to focus on upgrades in the following order: 1. Front L&R 2. Centre (Tweeters should match Front's) 3. Sub (does not need to be same brand as rest, I would look at SVS as a good value brand) 4. Power Amp (if you want to run separates) 5. Processor/Receiver...
