    So loadshedding is back

Insane to think that Eskom is in R400 bil debt, yet I am sure they will still hand out bonuses etc. https://businesstech.co.za/news/energy/287870/eskom-technically-bankrupt-as-debt-hits-r400-billion/

    DSTV and Benoni Car Radio

Wow, Service is really a problem all over the country. We stopped using DSTV about 5 years ago and solely stream everything we want to watch, when we want to watch it, without ads and repeats - haha. Sport can be a problem from time to time, but also isn't a major problem.

    Kill the projector TV's

Thanks, will do.  Sorry to all for the slight off topic.

    Kill the projector TV's

I've never ventured into projectors and I'm starting to want to make the move towards one.  So sadly I can't really add to the conversation from personal experience but I could possibly add why I'd like to go the projector route. We currently have an aged Samsung UA50F5000, which looks to...

    Which car insurance company?

We were for many years, with a family run Broker (personal friends of my folks) and although never had any large issues with claims etc I felt they were not giving us very competitive offerings and that the claims process was a little more drawn out than it needed to be. Moved our portfolio to...

Would you notice if the SABC went off line ?

I don't think we have actively watched any SABC TV channels (any terrestrial) since late 2011.  We gave up DSTV around mid 2013 too.  Hardly listen to the radio too. So that's a no.

    50- 60" TV vs Projector

Very interesting - didn't realise the display needed to be that big.  Certainly something to take into consideration.  I must say, seeing that one could start off with a humble projector setup in the +- R10k region makes it quite favourable.

    50- 60" TV vs Projector

That's a nice TV.  I did some measurements last night.  We are about 3.8m from the wall itself - the TV is probably 3.6m away then.  This is after moving the couch slightly further forward for better rear speaker placement.  I'll have to reassess everything once expenses calm down. ...

    Yeah, thanks.  ;)

    50- 60" TV vs Projector

Yeah, I was thinking of 1080P, as much as 4K would be great, we don't currently have any content that we watch at 4K.  On a side note, we do have a 100Mb Fibre line, so streaming isn't the issue, more so that none of our current means allow for watching at 4K.  Yes, obviously one would prefer to...

    50- 60" TV vs Projector

So would you say it would be a good idea to budget say R50k for the "equivalent" say R25k TV?  Obviously image size would differ but I think you know what I mean... hopefully.  I'm quite a noob so I am trying to understand if a projector would be something I could work towards of if it would be...

    50- 60" TV vs Projector

Again, a rather vague question but regarding projectors, for an "entry level" setup would one need to budget say R20k for a projector? I am in a situation where I have the wall space and can make the room dark enough I would believe.  Currently have a Samsung 50" LED non-smart hooked up to my...

    Advice on Data contract needed

I would suggest looking at Afrihost's options. Best bang for buck when it comes to 3G data. They on the MTN network, so use their network coverage to check if your area has a strong enough signal.

    AFRIHOST - ISP

Haha - I'm a family man. I was mistaken, was actually 908GB. I only placed 5th on the usage leaderboard, so imagine how much the others did. :) As the others said, having an automated setup like I do, before you can blink, you're using data.  I checked now, we've done 106.1GB as of now, and...

    AFRIHOST - ISP

No Netflix yet as we not even keeping up with the content on our HP Microserver lol.  I forgot, we actually finished on 908GB in the end.  It's the first and probably last time we will do that much.  In terms of streaming 720P YouTube content, just press play and watch - never stops to buffer.

    AFRIHOST - ISP

I'm with Afrihost as my ISP at home - 4Mb uncapped.  I did 896GB last month. I also have a Mifi device with their 5GB at R145/month which I use on the go. I'm happy to say that service has been good.  If there's been an issue, if, it's been resolved super quickly.
