Yup had teac tt plugged in barely any hum. Ok it has no cartridge installed just wanted to confirm the hum... In fact my first assumption was that the phono stage was stuffed. Unfortunately i dont have another amp or phono stage to check. But will replace the tt filter cap tomorrow and see...

Ok so ran the tt without cap. Table now stops spinng correctly when tonearm is parked. BUT... The thing makes such a hellish hum now when headshell is removed that the amp outputs 1W per channel on quarter volume with tomearm parked... Geesh! With headshell its a bit better than before...

Dont have experience with it but i googled it and i must say it does look very pretty... I am considering getting the Videoton Minimax speakers for the office. The looks would be a nice match I think... ;)

Yes motor chassis is earthed. Tested OK all over motor can... Hummmmm is present even with both headshell removed and TT plugged out of mains supply. Whether motor runs or not.

Yes I was looking for like for like and completely forgot.  :facepalm: Oh well now it will look all originalish when the replacement is back in...  ;) I did check existing earth, and tone tested continuity all the way from the amps earth mount point on the chassis to the tip of the tonearm...

Thanks Steerpike, Ordered component from RS. They only stock a 275V and Mantech has no paper caps.  :o I will try run the TT tonight again without the Cap and try what you suggested for the hum. I tested earth continuity and the tonarm and headshell are both ok. Both RCA cables also good but...
