How do these compare to the M40X's?

These are expensive cans - I wouldn't mod them. Try the HD600's? A lot of people prefer them.

Waiting for review as I believe the drivers are different to the other 4-series Hifimans.

The m40x's are probably the only closed-back AT's worth the money (other than the MSRP's and their really high end stuff.)
