Thanks. I will give that a try. Earlier I uninstalled the Ami catalyst drivers and reinstalled the stock motherboard HD audio drivers, now I am back onto 2 channel audio via HDMI. It's still much better then no audio ;)

Thanks for the response Danny_Boy, I tried numerous alternatives. Kodi open, kodi closed, windows sounds and thru windows media player etc, all totally silent with my amp not recognising any audio coming thru HDMI

hmmm, I just had an idea. I can plug the HDMI cable directly from my PC into the TV (instead of the amp like normal) and see if that recognises anything different etc, then I can discern if there is any issue with the amp (which hasn't been changed or fiddled with) or the PC.
