I assume you meant "volume is also bypassed". I have never seen a KAV300i (or any other Krell amp/preamp) with tone controls.

I doubt that the dac has the ability to accept 24 bit data. I assume that the word length gets truncated somewhere between pc and dac unless I enable 16 bit dithered output.
