Even with CEC off, its still doing that. I'll have to read through the manual when I get a chance and see how else I can connect it. Thanks!

Thanks, that does seem like the reasonable thing to do. BT is frowned upon here - noted! I've had a look at the WXAD-10 that Trashy recommended - its just another bit of tech to add but also uses BT. Would USB-c from my phone to the AVR be the best option?
