HDMI ports blown on a Samsung Plasma

Neither is DSTV and a 720 p panel receiving a 720P signal is often better than a 1080p pannel scaling 720 up to 1080,

The receiver BS (old some stereo cheats) STOP here

We are getting seriously off topic now but the reality is that we live in SA and not in Europe of the US. Many distributors, particularly those that bring in upper end gear (and ironically the kind of gear that would fare well in a proper test) only bring in one or two units. If given the choice...

The receiver BS (old some stereo cheats) STOP here

Being there at the time i remember things just a little differently. The main issue was not getting gear tested, but one of practicality. When a distributor only lets you have a product for a finite amount of time you ave to decide what to do. Send the product to Cape Town for a week, or use...

The receiver BS (old some stereo cheats) STOP here

This is what I love about the forum. Someone ask which manufacturers quote figures with all channels driven so I put up those for Cambridge Audio. And then it is assumed that I'm questioning them. Why do some people always jump to the wrong conclusions. Oh wait, because its the forum.

Another Power Amp recommendation question - B&W-related

I'd say go for a NuPrime ST10 or a pair of STA9's. But then I may be a little biased.

The receiver BS (old some stereo cheats) STOP here

The below from the cambridge audio web site for their CXR200 Power output: 200 watts RMS per channel, 6 ohms (two channels driven), 270 watts RMS per channel, 4 ohms (two channels driven), 170 watts RMS per channel, 8 ohms (two channels driven), 120 watts RMS per channel, 8 ohms (all 7...

The receiver BS (old some stereo cheats) STOP here

Also joining this late but here goes anyway. My take on Surround sound is based on actually reviewing hundreds of AVR's over a decade and a half of being an audio reviewer. I'm going to make some generalizations so please bear with me. First a little bit of history. Av amplifier ratings only...

Car Audio 3 way active crossover for home 3 way Synergy horn

I have to disagree with Scottulus. Most decent car audio crossovers are DSP based now days and being such are really pretty good. I've used models from Audison (bit one and Bit ten), Arc Audio (Ps8) and some from Zapco. There are lots around. Pretty much all can be used to set delays, crossover...

    Flac for car audio

I've been mucking about with my old Acer Aspire one and a uDSD in my car. I even have a USB powered analogue FM tuner that would let me listen to Fm radio and Have zero data use. If i wanted to go the whole hog, all I'd need to do would be to fit a DC to AC converter (to power the Aspire) and a...

Discussion - new Early Bird for new NuPrime products!

One difference is that as balanced will typically deliver double the voltage than single ended, unless this is accounted for, balanced will sound louder. This often the reason many prefer the balanced input when switching between SE and balanced. If there is lots of "noise" being picked up via...

    AVP technical issues

From my initial look, the AVP is a superb product and it has all the features really needed. As for the set up mic, it was an omission, but one that is being corrected. A point Jason made was that a quality mic pushes up the price of a product and that sometimes the return on this is not...
