    Listening To Music Critically

How often have you found that your intention was to sit and listen carefully, only to realize that you've stopped listening critically because what you were hearing was just too damn good to continue listening critically and you found yourself just enjoying the music   :Whoohoo:

hi-fi shops of the old days

Perhaps a little more recent.. Absolute Sound in Sandton City was my first visit to a high end hi-fi store. Remember listening to Infinity Preludes (I thought they sounded pretty decent) in the front of the store, then Audio Research and Martin Logan SL3's in the back. There was also a pair or...

    DIY 2015 First photos

Heard Jim Keltner's Improvisation was played loudly to demonstrate dynamics, wow  :notworthy:, it was loud, but still clear. Did anyone notice the mids and tweets were being driven by what seems to have been a Rotel RB-976 connected with ripcord? I stand corrected here, but that was impressive...

Any suggestions wer I can't get good quality deep house tracks?

With this genre of music, I don't think the audience will notice much difference with MP3 @ 320K vs higher bitrates

Any suggestions wer I can't get good quality deep house tracks?

How about Beatport? I've purchased from them before, sound quality of the tracks I purchased as pretty good and you can download them in WAV as well, I didn't buy deep house, more like electro house.

    Audioholics Anonymous

Totally agree with this... Would like to add that the quality of the recording ranks up there with the most important items. Garbage in, garbage out. Although, certain 'not so well' recorded music, to me is more enjoyable than ultra high fidelity music simply because the music moves you at a...

Which brand of AVR if audio capabilty is more important than bells & whistles

Juggy, how does the Emotiva compare sonically to the Integra? That sounds like a good plan, if I can find one  :)

Which brand of AVR if audio capabilty is more important than bells & whistles

I'm driving a pair of Martin Logan Electromotions through a ML332 and have a Rythmik DS1200Ci sub. I listen to 80% music, 20% Concert / Movies. I like to play it loud with music, not so much with movies and concert blu ray, Dire Straits, You and Your Friend, like to crank it way up... with...

Which brand of AVR if audio capabilty is more important than bells & whistles

Hi Thanks for the responses, budget is R15k short term, up to 30k long term or at the end of this year. Nice, but this would be out of my price range. I wish Sony made ES range components like they used to. Not sure I'm keen on Sony. I do like the sound of Rotel, nice and clean, but can...

Which brand of AVR if audio capabilty is more important than bells & whistles

Hi I'm need to replace my Rotel RSP-1068, its served me well but its time move on. Haven't got much experience with different AVR's, sticking to Rotel seems like a good choice, however it seems like they're behind on digital tech side of things. What would you recommend if audio capability...

what gear are you looking to in 2015

Need a new surround processor to replace the RSP-1068.... to do 2.1 / 3.1, looking for something warmer sounding, more tube like... needs to be competent in the 2.0/2.1-ch as I use it predominantly for music, but when I haul out a movie / concert, still needs to sound decent. Perhaps something...

    Wood Planing Service

Awesome, thanks very much WaterHond. Now that I think about it, we moved a HUGE wardrobe (I think made from the same wood) for my mom and she swears that anything she stores in there is guaranteed to be moth free. I was thinking, yeah right, its just another wooden closet :nutter: guess we...

    Wood Planing Service

Hi I have a crate of raw wood that was brought from China by my grandfather some 40 - 50 years ago, been moved around from house to house until it ended up in storage. Not sure what type of wood it is, but I'd like to do something with it. Sanded it with an orbital with 60 grit just to clean it...

    McIntosh MC2105 & C26

Hi Everyone Thanks for all the interest, I've decided to keep them for the next 3 months. Wanted to spend some time to get to know them well before letting them go. I've been quite surprised on how this vintage gear sounds, still has the ability to bring out a lot of detail, strangely I'm...
