No more high fidelity for me

If it's not worth the effort, why continue with it?  That's how I measure it.  I've also liked super-high quality before, but when I saw the price tag I made peace with the fact that I won't ever own it, and, well, it doesn't bother me.  My DIY bookshelves with a small amp and active (cheap) sub...

Amplifier is good as new.  Working like before.  Nilam is definitely on my list of "deal with him" for the future!

My first ever DIY bookshelf speakers

Nah not too set on African Blackwood.  Actually any darker wood will do just fine, and I veneer can be stained, can't it?  And the issue is the speakers are small, I need less than 1sqm, so I really can't go and buy a whole sheet the size of a sheet of MDF  :sd: EDIT:  Any dark wood like Wenge...

My first ever DIY bookshelf speakers

I've never built speakers before (well, like this) and I've never covered stuff in either vinyl or veneer.  Is veneer really easier and how much does it cost?  Where would one find something like an ebony or African blackwood veneer?  I don't need a lot, I take it the rear and bottom of the...

My first ever DIY bookshelf speakers

So I never posted an update to this at the end.  They ended up GREAT.  To be fair, I only covered the last enclosure with the vinyl this weekend.  Yes, it took a long time, but I was a bit in two minds about the black vs the light brown of the MDF, because I liked the look of both.  In the end...

Nilam got back to me.  After he ruled out a ton of things, turned out to be a dud capacitor like I expected it to be.  It's now fixed, picking it up in a bit.  R800 total charge, which I don't think is too bad.

Aww.  Not a dry joint, not a relay, so he has to delve deeper.  Cost is climbing  :vsad:

Handed in my amplifier at Nilam's today.  Explained the issue to him and he said it doesn't sound too serious, as long as it's not a microchip (electronic) issue.  Then the amp is dead and probably won't be worth fixing at all.  Here's to hoping it's a cheap fix! :be:

I actually don't think it's a dry joint.  Dry joints usually do OK if you press the button in another direction or if you wobble/slap the machine a bit.  I've tried this, gently, and it makes no difference.  A dry joint I can fix myself, I'm clued up enough, but I'm not sure where I'll get...

Anyone have a possible guesstimate on the fix?  It sounds like it actually might be the relay like mentioned above.  When switching it on it gives a very distinct "click" from the inside of the amp, and this click is missing when it won't come on. Yesterday I managed to switch on the amp again...

Good morning ladies and gents, I came upon a very accommodating forum member a while ago who helped me get into the whole audio scene.  During our meetings and communications I took over from him a Yamaha RX-E810 stereo amplifier and it's matching CD/DVD player, the DVD-E810.  These have been...

Help! I need an email app that shows ...

Difference is that with the sheriff or with registered mail, that method is a legally accepted proof of reception, so it holds up in court, as far as I know.

440ml, but yeah, it's done.  12% reduction in size.

    Legalization: Yay or nay

Nah I'm simply interested in the method, but got no interest in smoking it myself.  Like how airplanes fly and how helicopters stabilize themselves - but I got no interest in buying either a plane or a chopper.
