    The Cape Town Hi-Fi Club

@Jozua_2019 what equipment was in use? (Not that I buy into the hype, but I think this is important to know).

    Removing passive sub driver

3 years is an unreasonably short lifespan. What make & model is your subwoofer?

    Removing passive sub driver

I'm curious to know what "often" means...(?) If you remove the passives you will compromise low frequency extension. At worst you may have to apply low frequency EQ to compensate; this will require a lot more power from the amps, all things being equal (also depends on the material you play).

    Yamaha NS-690 resto-mod

The easiest way to neaten it up is to have an adaptor 3D printed. A nicer solution is to have aluminium CNC'ed. An alternative is to make a plug/insert from MDF and then cut the tweeter recess out of it, like I did for this Infinty Primus 360:

Speakers for an Exclamé 100 in a big room

As alluded to by Martin, it's a missed opportunity if you are requiring your main speakers and amplifier to still produce the full range signal, whereas you have a subwoofer that can take over the lower frequency work. The fear of filters is quite an antiquated response. But to each their own...

Speakers for an Exclamé 100 in a big room

Unfortunately, the "sub output" found on stereo amps is exactly the same as "pre-outs" that you sometimes found on integrated amps: just a full-range signal which is level-controlled by the volume control. I find this to be a major con, as there is nothing about this signal that makes it...

Brands to look at: Klipsch, JBL, Cerwin-Vega!

    Impedance matching

Yes. This is generally how it is done for line-level signals: driving impedance low, load impedance high.

Room Correction Using JRiver Parametric EQ

An equaliser won't fix your acoustic problems. It will help a bit if you have some standing waves or other resonance, or a frequency response anomaly in the speaker itself, but not much beyond that. If you can't do acoustic treatment, you might have to fight fire with fire, and that means...

    Compliant Mechanism Pivoting Tangential Tonearm

Glad to see you back onto this project. I don't know if I'm perhaps way off target, but have you, instead of cutting, considered chemical etching, as done with PCB manufacture?

Old high-end TV disposal - any ideas?

I wonder if the problem is not perhaps something other than the tube. I'd do that after removing the speaker drivers, one of which is a subwoofer.

    Foam/rubber surrounds for square drivers?

Modern foam formulations are more durable than the older types; they don't break down as easily. I have some foam-surround woofers that are over 20 years old that have not perished.

Old high-end TV disposal - any ideas?

It's a bit of a technical issue, this one, as the tube is at end of life.

Old high-end TV disposal - any ideas?

My BIL is about to replace an old Sony Wega 81cm CRT TV that was a beast in its day. Sadly, now it has a very dim tube. Everything else is working. I was just wondering if there is anyone who might be interested in it. Location is Cape Town.
