    Ekco u312 “popping noise” issue

Yep, consider it destroyed but it probably was on the way out anyway. If you are referring to this silver Plessey cap above then it appears to be a dual 50uF + 50uF electrolytic cap. I don't know if dual caps are still available but you could use two separate 50uF caps and join the -ve leads...

    Garrard model 70 (1949-51)

Mass-produced Record Changers of that vintage usually made use of a crystal/ceramic cartridge, although I cannot recall having ever seen a cartridge quite like that. It should match your Ekco radio well, that would more than likely be a ceramic/crystal phono stage, typical output of these...

    Ekco u312 “popping noise” issue

I must admit that I am still using the original filter caps as well in two of my Mullard valve amps that I built close to 50 years ago, simply because they "look" so nice! If there is no humming sound from the amp, leave them then as is. If ever they do dry out, gut them completely and fit the...

    WRS “playmate” TV

Nice! I have an old Sony B&W AC/DC TV that I bought brand new in the good old days, wonder if it still works - has not been fired in decades! -F_D

    Ekco u312 “popping noise” issue

As per your other pics, throw the old caps out. New ones should be within 10% rating of the prescribed value of the Cap, while the new voltage rating can go higher because modern caps are a lot smaller than the older ones. Do not operate the unit until you have done so. -F_D

    Ekco u312 “popping noise” issue

That cap definitely does not look healthy! I would suggest changing ALL the electrolytic caps in any case, most specifically if they are of the same manufacturer as that indicated. That could certainly be the cause of the motor-boating. -F_D

Marantz pm-57 sound cutting out issue

Johnny, read my saga with a TA7317P problem on my Technics SE-A5. The locally purchased TA7137P was incorrect but the fault did not lie with the protection IC in any case. This amplifier is still rock-solid! -F_D

    Ferranti u1302 radio (issue?)

"Magic eyes" do normally have a fairly limited life but its dimness will have nothing to do with the UL84. If the UL84 is still producing audio output to the speaker, I would not worry too much about it. That being said, the rectifier UY/UZ8* (or whatever) and the UL84 are the valves that work...

    Ferranti u1302 radio (issue?)

According to that sticker, the radio is AC/DC. The transformer you see is simply the output transformer between the Audio output valve and the speaker. The smell you experience is probably 70 years of dust & grime build-up - look at that resistor just below the transformer. :) -F_D

    Ferranti u1302 radio (issue?)

If there is no AC Mains transformer in that radio, the green thing is a wire-wound resistor. This means that the radio was originally designed for 110v AC and all the valve filaments are wired in series, their voltage requirement then matching the 110v. So the green wire wound resistor is an...

    Ekco u312 “popping noise” issue

It's known as "Motor-boating" and is usually caused by Caps & Resistors that have gone bad. It would be a good idea to change all caps and check or even change all resistors. If you have an electric fence nearby, try switching it off as well, that could very likely cause this interference...

Marantz pm-57 sound cutting out issue

It's important to measure the DC Offset a couple of times, say at switch-on and then some 20 minutes or so later when componentss have had a chance to stabilise. -F_D

    Geco SRPP+ pre Problem

Looking at the pics, there is nothing that should radiate that much heat? Perhaps the Heatsink for the VR could be increased but the valves would not get unbearably hot. There appears to be one wire-wound resistor mounted on the chassis but that should not cause any problems. -F_D

    Supersonic Chairman radio

We had a member here some years back who - if I remember correctly - is the son of the founder of Supersonic. Can't recall what his username is, hopefully he is still here. Supersonic manufactured brilliant radio equipment at the time, their car radios were in a league of their own. Good luck...

    Vintage Sansui L60 Speakers

I seem to recall that Sentronics might have been a South African company, not sure on this though. They could possibly have built the speaker enclosures using Sansui drivers. Like @marantz123 suggests, see if the speaker magnets are branded. -F_D

Cars that were tuned in South Africa

South Africa also produced the GSM Dart and Flamingo back in the early 60s. Probably would be worth a fortune if you could get your hands on one now, this was probably SA's highest achievement at the time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass_Sport_Motors -F_D

Expertly done Ajay, congratulations on your first attempt! Any chance of seeing the amp unskirted, i.e. so that we can see the wiring? -F_D
