    Instant coffee

Nescafé black roast. 450ml cup, 3 teaspoons coffee, 3 teaspoons brown sugar, 1 teaspoon Cremora, and about 50ml fresh milk.👌 I’ll substitute a teaspoon of Douw Egberts or Jacob’s Gold on a whim.

    Imaging and unrealistic expectations

I disagree. Excellent imaging and soundstage are a result of technological progress regarding electrical control (phase) of drivers throughout the crossover region, for one, and correct setup and room acoustics, secondarily. As with any technological advancement, the market becomes aware of it...

    Imaging and unrealistic expectations

You are right, it is not necessary. I can enjoy a tune at a braai on a Volcano Bluetooth speaker. However, in my listening spot, I can be moved emotionally, or transported to another dimension or simply entertained by a smorgasbord of sound as if watching fireworks. This, the Volcano speaker...

    Imaging and unrealistic expectations

I gotta say Deon, I have not read you that way. I understood that you do not hear a precise ( even though fake) soundscape and image. And that you were trashing the existence of these effects. Much like @1200GXman stating: “I don't believe in imaging when it comes to audio systems”

    Imaging and unrealistic expectations

I am not in the mood to educate. I have tried before, and am now indifferent.

    Imaging and unrealistic expectations

You okes all still carry on about “ a recording must accurately capture an image”. Who cares if it’s accurate? There is image and soundstage. Together those two effects can present a believable experience regarding a sonic space. An artificial space, not necessarily based on any real event. Get...

How much power to run 6 ohm speakers

Yes, it depends on the above. But it REALLY depends on your ability to detect distortion, and exercise restraint. The difference between an 80w amp and 120w is not much. You mentioned that you tend not to disturb the neighbours. Based on that, I’d say you should be OK with the Denon. If you...

    Imaging and unrealistic expectations

Errm, mono on perfectly matched stereo speakers, set up correctly, will astound you with the image it creates. I dare say, it beats many manipulated stereo images. Just because it’s mono, doesn’t mean it doesn’t have depth, width and spatial specificity. Those things are ALL there.

    Imaging and unrealistic expectations

Ja!!! And **** this colour thing on TVs these days. I can clearly see everything perfectly in black and white. All these fancy people buying these expensive TVs. Just a waste of money.

    W4S DAC USB connect

If you plug a mini Toslink cable/ adapter into a Mac, you should see the red light on the other end of the Toslink cable. If not, play some music. If still not, click on the audio control icon up top, and set the audio output to optical. If still not, find the midi controller app. Set the sound...

    Silly subwoofer question

Each subwoofer has a roll off towards the low end of the frequency spectrum. Multiplying the subwoofers increase the room response under the roll off slope just as it increases the response under the pass band. Theoretically, 3db per additional sub. Thus, one can gain usable extension under the...

The Air Vivace speakers - new to South Africa

The Vivaces construction is far more technical than similarly priced speakers from the traditional stable. Think Monitor Audio Platinum, KEF Reference etc. Those speakers are still made from MDF. The Vivace is a complex construction of carbon fibre, aluminium and real wood. If the Vivace were to...

    Toslink should work. Good luck.

    W4S DAC USB connect

Hmm. Seems that W4S used a custom USB implementation on the DAC 2. They supplied custom drivers for Windows and Mac on a CD. You might be fooked here. If your Mac still has the 3.5mm headphone jack, you can use Toslink/ optical. The 3.5mm headphone jack doubles as a Toslink connector. You need...

Try a different cable. The USB connection should be problem free from Mac.

    Are DIY subwoofers worth it???

No, I need to delay my mains by more than 15 ms. I don’t recall the exact figure now, but the MiniDSP 10x10 HD which I had could only do 15ms.

    Are DIY subwoofers worth it???

I have used REW to determine the necessary delay for my mains. Unfortunately that delay was beyond the capability of the MiniDSP unit I had at the time. Added to the fact that the MiniDSP in the chain lowered fidelity of the system.
