    Vintage Equipment

    Pioneer Pl12 Turntable (1977) , NAD 3020 (1980) - this one doing duty in my nephew's system.

How old does equiptment need to be in order to be considered vintage?

Funny how these threads take a funny turn and go south in a hurry. From Vintage (quality) Audio to 100 yr old mattresses. So we can categorize mattresses as Sprung pre Seally Posteurpedic , and now all the other scientifically proven stuff. A friend said now that we have to buy beds and...

    Natural Sounding Voices

Really depends on the recording or quality of recording, type of microphones, closeness of microphones to person and a host of other things as you know. Those best voice recording compilations ( a few volumes) often have a few very real singer in the room songs on them

Finally Going Fully Digital Or Not

Interesting / intriguing question. I still have 2XTT and a CD player connected in my main system, both rarely used these days. Don't intend parting with them just yet (ever) - a mix of hoarder syndrome and sentimentality. Its part of my hi fi journey and history and took years to refine and...

Yamaha new to me just arrived, YP-D10 TT and CR-2040

TT looking good. There is a Yamaha sub-forum on Audiokarma. If you not on it join- there are many enthusiasts for the brand involved in restoration and repairs. You should get real help there as that amp is quite a popular model on the that forum. Good luck with the process. Pity about the...

    The last Boer War survivor

The only people unaffected by wars are those who died in the fighting. The negatives of war live on in all who stay behind and runs into generations.

Old but definitely not Cold .... ahhhh life is good !!!!

Enjoy. Older speakers often have special qualities and combination with relatively "younger" amplifiers and ancillaries often brings out some surprisingly good music

Question - for the older members particularly

Agree. He was part of a counter culture that opposed the hegemonic narratives of the day with his music

    A mystery and a departure

Ingvar you have contributed to the forum collective and also done things for and assisted individuals. It would be sad if we lost you. I hope the matter can be sorted amicably and the misunderstandings clarified.

Miraval Studios France - a little something to behold

It must be one of the few studios where Yamaha NS 10 "monitors" do not take pride of place on desk somewhere. Just saying

What kind of Audiophile are you?

Did not read all the posts in detail so not sure of the categories that were developed for audiophiles. I however like to believe that I am a music lover who enjoys great sound. Not a gear lover that salivates over pics and reviews but a lover of gear that produces good music

What kind of Audiophile are you?

J River sounds great and has provided such convenience as a media player. I prefer it to streaming sound, but I enjoy the benefits if Tidal to access new music effortlessly and Tidal really does not sound too bad.

    Another one bites the dust

Sad. Wonder where our hobby will be in the next decade. Book stores like Exclusive are full over weekends and seemingly doing brisk business, so hard copy books still in demand. I think the magazine market has been on the decline for a while now and probably heading for obscurity.

    Where are we?

Good post AIR. We just need to get beyond the " old guard" who still wield the power in many places. I too have full confidence in the next generation and live in hope that we are headed for better times globally. We have the knowledge, technology and connectivity to take collective action on...

    Where are we?

Vote with your feet Ingvar or not at all; "if voting could change the system, it would be illegal" (anon).

    First Watt

"A good Pinotage," The expert said, "Always smells like a wet sack". Its because they submerge a sack of sawdust into the big barrels to add more of a woody character. Much like a tea bag. Pinotage my favorite cultivar btw

    Classic System Valuation

The amp is a NAD 3020A so not numero uno but first updated version.

    Classic System Valuation

AR 18 LS around R1.5k I think. Depends on condition of cabs and drivers (look dusty) and also the covers. Are they included and in what condition are they? I think it should be sold as combo and not split (maybe TT separately)
