Downwards firing sub woofer on tiles: practical solution to stop the jumping sub

Thanks for all the replies. It doesn't have rubber feet and I don't recall seeing any that could be fitted in the box.  Where would I source some of those? In terms of raising it, good point on the potential impact of the sound.  if it changes the sound, I may be tempted to turn up the volume...

Downwards firing sub woofer on tiles: practical solution to stop the jumping sub

I have a downwards firing sub, and when volume levels start rising, so does the jumping height.  This seems to be due it being of a tiled floor. What practical solutions are there to resolve this ?  I understand a cone of sorts placed under it may help, what about lifting it by extending the...

More oomph needed: Marantz 5007 and Jamo 606's

Thanks for the responses thus far, I'm going to check the aspects raised and get back to you.

More oomph needed: Marantz 5007 and Jamo 606's

Just more volume.  I thought the combo was capable of more.  Or I'm slowly losing my hearing.

More oomph needed: Marantz 5007 and Jamo 606's

I have a marantz 5007 AVR and a 5.1 setup with Jamo 606's. It feels like the speakers can 'do more' , mostly noticeably in stereo mode when playing music via airplay. What should I consider in terms of getting the most out of the speakers ?  e.g. are there settings I may have missed (I have...

I found Brian from www.solarmac.co.za very helpful when we did our solar heating through them.

Dof question of the day: Speaker Cabling

I realise you were posing your question to scrarfussi, but thats exactly the stuff I used. So far it seems it shouldn't have any damaging impact on the speakers.  It does appear though that the school is out on whether other cabling could offer an improvement in terms of quality, but my gut...

Dof question of the day: Speaker Cabling

Thanks Abu. I don't want to replace the existing cabling unless: 1.  They are somehow potentially damaging the AVR and/or speakers or 2.  The sound quality I will get from speakers is being reduced due to the cabling used

Dof question of the day: Speaker Cabling

So here is my DQOTD: Speaker Cabling:  somehow I got it into my mind that cabling with very good insulation was needed (i.e. thick plastic around the metal threads).  I found some decent stuff at builder's warehouse.  I later found out it was electric cabling.  Very very thick, and the 'copper'...

Why are the old dual PVR's so popular?

Hi there, I'm trying to sell a SD PVR.  What advertising avenue turned out to be successful?  I've tried one or two forums, but no takers yet.  I can't post on the avforums AV for sale section yet as I don't have a high enough post count.  Where else can I try ? Thanks, Radar

    Excellent service ? Vaughan (Smartlifestyle)

+1 from me too. I have made one purchase through him and am in the process of considering another one. Where Vaughan seems to have the edge is that he's not afraid to call a spade a spade when asked for techinical advice, even if that means he doesn't get the sale.  That's one of the reasons...

    DSTV subscription hijacked!

I have previously had issues with DSTV as well, although mine were with incorrect billing of my annual subscription.  I posted on the DSTV forums, and the applicable moderator made personal contact via PM and then email, and I managed to bypass the 1st line of support (the call centre).  I found...

Bi-wiring of speakers: a dummies guide please

Isn't there a lot to loose e.g. over powering and thereby damaging the speakers ?  From what I understood the question was, he is planning on using 2 spare channels on a 7.1. AVR (as he only has a 5.1 speaker setup) and wiring those to speakers he already has connected i.e. they are part of the...

Bi-wiring of speakers: a dummies guide please

For what its worth, I feel less stupid now as I might not be the only one who doesn't understand al this bi-stuff  ;D Thank you for the replies, it has been informative.

Bi-wiring of speakers: a dummies guide please

Thanks gents.  Just after posting this I found another recent post as well about 'bi-amping' and read up a bit. Mostly greek to me, and it seems I'm not the only one, but I now get the jist of it.  Essentially not something I would be interested in (in terms of cost vs. benefit).

Bi-wiring of speakers: a dummies guide please

My knowledge of things electronic and AV related is not good at all. I noticed the term 'bi-wiring of speakers' used a lot, and that some of the speakers provide two sets of connections for speaker wires at the back. I am however unclear as to what is needed to use this and what the benefit...

Good deal ? Marantz SR5007 and Jamo S428

Thanks Vaughan and Flutter. To me it seemed like a no brainer:  Dionwired has the AV receiver alone listed at R11,500.  So for R500 extra you get the 5 speakers (excl.  Sub).  The sub is an optional extra at R4k. I hear what you are saying in terms of the 'match up' between the speaker set and...

Good deal ? Marantz SR5007 and Jamo S428

I keep an eye on DionWired's promotions and noticed this package deal for a Marantz SR5007 and 5 speaker Jamo set (S428 apparently), all for R12,000.  There is an option to add on the SUB260BL for an extra R4,000.  For R16,000 is this a great deal or not ?  Could I get an AV receiver of...

    House plans

With regards to the Lapa, it may differ from municipality to municipality, rather make sure directly with them. In ours (Ekhuruleni) it had to go onto a plan due to the size (can't remember what the sq.m was).  Also if it was going to be within a meter or two (or affixed) then regardless of...
