    Big acoustic problem

Lots of large, hard reflective surfaces - hanging absorptive clouds from the beams and placing absorbers along the concrete walkway and beams would help.

    Silly subwoofer question

A given sub will perform differently in different positions in the room. By combining multiple subs across positions you can benefit from these differences, evening out the response across a wider area and gain headroom on top, but it won't extend the in-room response beyond the sum of...

    Traditional to Wireless Rears

Why not spend some extra time managing the cables neatly? You don’t have to go into that much extra effort, can be as simple as some PVC channels along the ceiling. Neat, out of the way, unobtrusive.

    Denon HEOS - wireless surrounds?

It looks like you need a Heos soundbar for the front, then you can add Heos surrounds and sub: https://www.denon.com/en-us/category-pages/wireless-home-theater.html

    Front Height Speakers

It depends on the mix, sometimes the sound can be quite direct, including elements like dialogue. The soundscape blends across the fronts and tops so you don't want a distinct shift in tone bisecting the effect.

    Denon HEOS - wireless surrounds?

That reply is in reference to a specific soundbar product that uses a virtual surround algorithm and therefore is not compatible with physical surround speakers.

    Are DIY subwoofers worth it???

Why are you adding delay to your speakers rather than just the sub? 15ms is also a lot of delay to add, it can be that it's so far out because the signal to your sub needs to be inverted. EDIT: Just throwing some ideas at you. I find that the theory only gets you in the ballpark, but through...

    Home theatre center channel speakers

I think what people are trying to get across is that the centre channel shouldn't be an afterthought. It's common to see setups with large, often floorstanding fronts and a tiny centre channel, forgetting that it handles far more than just dialogue. The centre should be commensurate with the...

    Are DIY subwoofers worth it???

Ah, so you lack the ability to add the proper delay to the sub?

    Are DIY subwoofers worth it???

How have you tried to time align them? It shouldn't be that hard to do with REW.

Media player for Dolby Atmos using PLEX

I suspect the HDMI port you were using was probably not set to 2.1. Perhaps in swapping cables the TV was prompted to change the HDMI setting. The cable is not going to change what features are available. All that happens in that check is the Xbox queries what features the TV has and the TV...

Media player for Dolby Atmos using PLEX

Yes, agree completely. Are you talking about the 4K TV details screen? That's an EDID check to see what features your TV supports, it has nothing to do with the cable.

Media player for Dolby Atmos using PLEX

HDMI cables don't affect performance - if they work, they work the same as any other. I've got an 83" G4 with all connections made via R120 HDMI cables.

Media player for Dolby Atmos using PLEX

It won't downmix it, it doesn't support DTS at all - LG didn't see the point in springing for the license that year. Unless there's image breakup/no picture, there's no point in changing HDMI cables. It's not going to affect what formats are passed or anything like that.

Media player for Dolby Atmos using PLEX

Well there's your problem most likely, the LG C1 does not support DTS. Connecting directly to the AVR should solve the issue.

New Years Cape Town Accommodation Suggestions

Cellars-Hohenort might be a winner, I see there's good accommodation options over New Years. I'll see what my wife says in the morning, she stayed there a few years back for a work thing.
