    Members' Kit pics

Using the supplied bungs and a high crossover of 150Hz (with the sub between the speakers against the back wall perhaps) is a good place to start.

    Sony or Hisense

The side by sides are not useful for judging the Hisense, only to demonstrate that the camera exposure was responsible for the apparent black level, not the TV. The most representative example posted on this thread so far are from the AVForums video.

    Sony or Hisense

All good, but it doesn't help anyone to misrepresent the black level performance. Hisense is a great value, if you can live with the drawbacks in a dimmer room (which the higher peak brightness does not help you with), then that's great.

AVForums and HDTVtest are good channels as well.

    Sony or Hisense

No, it's not good anything. A Quantum Apotheosis (his original name, before being banned left right and centre and stripped of his channels) is rot straight to the brain. You can not believe anything he presents to you, it's absolute garbage of the highest order.

    Sony or Hisense

This guy is a joke, do not watch his videos, do not support him, he is a moron. Quantum is notorious amongst videophiles for his blatant, delusional misinformation.

    Sony or Hisense

All in the eye of the beholder. Personally I don't think it's ever so close at all, but I'm more particular* and view under better conditions than most. *EDIT: As an example, I bought a G3 earlier this year and sold it after three months as I couldn't live with its handling of certain low level...

    Sony or Hisense

Our eyes are very sensitive to contrast, you may feel the TV looks great, but objectively it does not present as black in a dark room. That is fine and not a problem for many people, but if the images are meant to represent dark room performance for someone trying to decide if they can live...

    Sony or Hisense

This is not an honest representation of the black level performance in a dark room. EDIT: Camera exposure is clipping the black level so that it presents as black. Your photo on the left vs the actual image to the right:

AVForums happens to have just released a video review of the U8N, you can see their thoughts on ambient lighting conditions from the 7:40 mark -

    Sony or Hisense

Hisense TVs used to differ between the US and other regions, but that's no longer the case. Now the only real difference is the platform (Vidaa / Google TV). EDIT: Watch from 4:20

Valve Audio Predator - Speaker Pairing

That's not weird at all, it's very normal behaviour for a sub. It's the reason why placement is so important and why multiple subs are needed to smooth response over a wider area. EDIT: As an example, my right sub doesn't show much variation between my and my wife's seat, but the left one...

Valve Audio Predator - Speaker Pairing

Someone mentioned controlled directivity speakers as a possible solution, but bear in mind that directivity only holds for higher frequencies. You might actually have more success with speakers with wide and even dispersion, as the reflected sound would better correlate with the direct sound...

Valve Audio Predator - Speaker Pairing

Would have to check the specs, but looks to me like something meant for an office setting i.e. helps to provide a better environment for conversation but not that helpful for music. Treating a room for music requires broadband (thick) absorption,. The problem with using thin absorbers is that...

    Room treatment advice

It's still strange to me that your subs have so little output across that range but your speakers seem to have no problem. EDIT: I suppose what could be happening is that the subs are actually set too low and really it's the output below 50Hz needs cutting (by 15-20dB).

Valve Audio Predator - Speaker Pairing

It's not going to achieve much, room treatment is a numbers game, you need a certain amount of coverage before you start to see a real impact and a room of that nature doesn't lend itself to effective placement. Give them a try if you like, but for me it wouldn't be worth the hit to aesthetics.

    LG OLED CS4 or C4

All LG's OLEDs use the evo panel. The G3 and G4 have an additional MLA layer and heatsinks, but are still evo panels. The C series does not have a heatsink. From what I gather, as WarrenD stated, the CS range is an older panel with newer electronics. The plastic housing at the back of the panel...

How to ditch DSTV but still watch the rugby?

The application is legal but it sounds like this gent has an illegal implementation. Brings you back to the choice to pirate or not.

Valve Audio Predator - Speaker Pairing

Looking at your room, I suspect what you're looking for has more to do with the acoustics than the hardware. By all means experiment, but if that is the space you need to stick with, you must be aware that the room will always impart a distinct sonic character, no matter what equipment you put...
