REW Measurements of AlleyCat's Room- Take 2

Hmm, it's sort of two different things. Room treatment is about treating general reflections, you're not going to have much success tackling low bass - positioning, EQ and the addition of subwoofers are your chief tools there. As discussed in other videos you've posted, such as Amir's - it's...

    Subs what is best?

It's not just about energy though, there's also extension to consider. Newer subs with better integration features can also make a big difference if your adjustment options otherwise are limited. Sounds like the subs were under-specced in relation to the mains rather than an issue with...

    Subs what is best?

I don't know what your options are in SA. I would advise sticking with a dedicated subwoofer brand over a speaker manufacturer that also offers subwoofers, and if your current setup doesn't offer a means to EQ the sub, I'd make sure the sub itself offers PEQ.

    Subs what is best?

I would say take the 40K and buy the best sub you can - then when you have another 40K, buy a second of the same model.

REW Measurements of AlleyCat's Room- Take 2

There is no chance the interconnects made a difference to the measured response. EDIT: Putting cables aside, to tame the variability in the arrival time of the lower frequencies, you would need to look at treating the entire room, as it's about the general absorptivity of the room, rather than...

    Dirac Live / REW+Equalizer APO

It's not a good idea to generate EQ filters using the combined left and right measurement. When you measure both together, you're not getting a perfectly summed response, you're seeing a response affected by cancellations and summations that would not be present in stereo. Far better to EQ L...

REW Measurements of AlleyCat's Room- Take 2

@AlleyCat, is the sharp cutoff at 16KHz due to choice of filter in the Denafrips?

REW Measurements of AlleyCat's Room- Take 2

You might want to consider introducing some light EQ into the mix. You wouldn't need much, three filters on the left, four on the right. Left: Right: EDIT: Just to point out, your response does have an upward slope towards the low end, but it presents as flat due to the compensation file...

Left Speaker: Right Speaker: Combined (match well with one another): Spectrogram Left: Spectrogram Right: The spectrogram is like the waterfall graph viewed from above. The dashed line shows differences in decay time, ideally you'd want a smooth line.

Two comments if I may. The first is you should be measuring left and right separately, the other is to pay attention to the scale of your graphs. EDIT: Sorry, I see you sent me a PM and have uploaded your L+R measurements. I'll look at them tomorrow, but one point I need to raise is that you've...

HDCP Handshake issues - Poor mans curse

Hmm, if it weren’t for the fact that your cables check out and that you have tried others, I would swear the issue lies with them not having the bandwidth. Edit: But you did say the Denon worked no problem. I revert to my original suggestion, you should return the Onkyo, it’s not fit for...

HDCP Handshake issues - Poor mans curse

Try it with the Onkyo connected via HDMI 4 on the TV, rather than the eARC input (it might be eARC settings causing issues).

HDCP Handshake issues - Poor mans curse

The "TV" setting is for audio output from the TV, it doesn't need an HDMI setting. You only select the TV input when your devices are connected to the TV and you're feeding the audio from the TV to the Onkyo. If your devices are connected to the Onkyo, you need to select the input the device is...

HDCP Handshake issues - Poor mans curse

No, switching off HDCP means switching off the copyright protection - 1.4 also has HDCP. When you switch off HDCP on the PS5 you still have HDMI 2.1 There could well be a compatibility issue, but it doesn't mean HDCP is to blame. Did you try setting everything as I suggested? You may just have...

HDCP Handshake issues - Poor mans curse

If switching HDCP off on the PS5 doesn't make a difference, it seems logical HDCP is not your issue. EDIT: Have you gone through the Onkyo's manual to see if the solution doesn't lie somewhere in the settings? Looking at the manual, make sure you're connecting the TV to the "Main" HDMI out...

HDCP Handshake issues - Poor mans curse

Cables look good. Looking into your TV, only two of the four HDMI inputs are 2.1, so make sure the AVR is connected to the correct input.

HDCP Handshake issues - Poor mans curse

It doesn’t sound like it’s an HDCP issue but a bandwidth one. Looking at you Onkyo’s menu, I see there are four HDMI out settings. The one you need to select is “8K Enhanced”. I would have thought the shorter the run the better. My HDMI cables are mostly 0.9m and 1.5m in length and I’ve never...

I’m in Iceland at the moment, took the opportunity to tour Harpa - super interesting to see just how configurable the acoustics are: EDIT - Bonus Photo:

HDCP Handshake issues - Poor mans curse

You can toggle HDCP 2.3 off on the PS5 - try that and see if it makes a difference. From what I’ve read online, the Onkyo shouldn’t be having any issues with the signal from the PS5 though.
