HDCP Handshake issues - Poor mans curse

If the Onkyo is newly purchased and not performing, I’d suggest returning it and getting a Denon or Marantz to drive your home theatre instead.

Interlinks don’t do anything! Or do they? 32 rca cables analyzed

Do USB Audio Cables Make A Difference? For DAC, I used our perennial favorite, the Schiit Modi 2 DAC. Of course I say that in jest as this is by far the worst DAC I have tested. It seems to be highly sensitive to power and USB conditions. I figured if there is one DAC that can show differences...

REW Measurements of AlleyCat's Room- Take 2

Noticed this posting now. What you have to bear in mind, in relation to the thread on this topic, is most people don't have the ability to measure as Amir and company do (hence the need to make this video to defend himself in the first place). When people state their listening volumes, they're...

Lyrics That Tickle Your Funny Bone

One lonely evening alone, home End up with carpal tunnel syndrome Here I am, known for giving heavy back aches Grown and living off of Little Debbie snack cakes Supposed to be checking emails All I got is messages from ass naked females I don't know no Jenny She said it's free and I won't owe...

Yes AlleyCat, he's describing the C50 measurement.

REW Measurements of AlleyCat's Room- Take 2

@AlleyCat - so we're on the same page here, the paper is saying that attention needs to be paid to not only the RT60, but also the ratio of early to late sound energy - which is what the C50 measures: "C50 is expressed in dB and it is related to the attribute clarity. It is an objective measure...

That bit about it being a long, tedious procedure is quite smart - it'll encourage people to subject themselves to a protracted period of fiddling and listening, pretty much guaranteeing they'll "hear" differences.

If the device is differential then you get that benefit, as the Sony CDP appears to be, but it's not a benefit of the cable itself - in the HT space many devices are fitted with XLR outputs but rarely are they actually balanced.

Interlinks don’t do anything! Or do they? 32 rca cables analyzed

Yes, but whether 2Vrms or 4Vrms, it makes no difference to the signal to noise ratio, it only limits what amps are appropriate to pair with the source device. What makes a difference is the differential signal from the source. If the source isn't truly differential (which is typically the case...

Interlinks don’t do anything! Or do they? 32 rca cables analyzed

It's not the doubling of voltage that leads to an improvement to signal to noise ratio as far as I understand it. If the source is single ended (regardless of the connection type) the cable doesn't improve the signal to noise ratio (the caveat to that being that the source provides the necessary...

    Audyssey One

I've tried it and my results weren't great - sub optimisation was poor.* If you just want a one button solution and are not too fussed, it's quick and easy to try and compare to the results delivered by the Audyssey phone app. If you're serious about getting the best out of your system...

    Advice/recommendations for a power amplifier

No need to limit yourself to a single amplifier, you could stack 2x 4ch NC252MP amps, or get a 2ch NC252MP and 3ch Purifi for the fronts - or however you'd like to configure the system. The chassis match, are low profile and daisy chain via 12v triggers. You also don't need to buy one with RCA...

    Advice/recommendations for a power amplifier

You don't even need to do that. An AVR/C with good preouts can be just as good and substantially cheaper with no increase in power draw. I don't know what your options for class-D amps in South Africa are, but something like a Hypex NC252MP is a great HT solution. Efficient, cool, doesn't take...

REW Measurements of AlleyCat's Room- Take 2

It's not one or the other, it's a combination of both. I agree with the notion that listening is the foundation for assembling an audio system - that doesn't mean measurements don't come into the picture. Every now and then we need a reality check.

    Do you power condition?

From the last interaction you and I had in this thread (in response to the claim that the picture was more detailed): "It's not surprising that multiple people in the same household make similar observations, it's the observer-expectancy effect. A TV doesn't develop more pixels, nor content...

It's not bait, it’s logical argument. Those deviations are far larger than any one might attribute to cables.

Interlinks don’t do anything! Or do they? 32 rca cables analyzed

Context is important, I used the word "subtle" in response to Nirvana's invocation of the word in relation to hearing differences in cables. You said this was about learning, not right and wrong. The following is in that spirit. There's a reason they shoot for RT decay times of under 0.2 in a...
