The best headphones money can buy

True that, the new Hifiman HE1000 looks the business (if somewhat dear at $3000  :faint:) The phones listed there are all solid, but some new guns like the Abyss and Mad Dogs are also intriguing, plus no list of high end cans is complete without the Grado PS1000 (say what you like about it...

Looking to try out open-back headphones. Advice needed.

The Beyers will need a good solid state amp, I have only listened to and own the 250ohm version, and they are very good. Open back has the downside of diminished bass slam and impact, so keep that in mind.

Looking to try out open-back headphones. Advice needed.

DT 880 from Beyer, amped right (think a beyerdynamic amp) and they sing loud and proud. Not sure where to go listen to headphones, that is one of the main issues around headphones is finding a place that has demo's available and dont mind letting you demo through various sources. I have...

Looking to try out open-back headphones. Advice needed.

dont exclude Beyerdynamic from the list, but from the above I would say the AKG are the nicer to own. A better build and more exciting sound over the sennies

SF Cremona Auditor vs Spendor SA-1

Surprisingly yes, heard both. The SF have the richer and more full bodied sound. They have superior bass and fill a room better. The Spendor are more mid ranged focused, but they have a lovely over-all sound though not room filling. The SF are the more expensive speaker and they are something...

    Audeze LCD-2 ..... Oh my !!

Been changing DAC's between HRT Streamer HD, Cambridge Audio Dacmagic, NuForce  and a meridian explorer to name a few. The best to my ears are the HRT and NuForce. They get a lot right, but I suspect that if I move up the DAC ladder (I really like the antelope audio's) then I might find I am...

    Audeze LCD-2 ..... Oh my !!

The Phonitor 2 ticks that box beautifully, that said they are not a difficult load for amps (being orthos and all at), its more about finding the right source and amp combo. I find that LCD 2 can be too polite with the wrong kit and make you feel like you missing the upper reaches of detail...

    Audeze LCD-2 ..... Oh my !!

Glad you enjoying them, a rather large step up (physically and sonically) from the momentums... Remember the Norflex for the neck before you eventually take them off and go to bed :BWAHAHAH:

Employees that run to the CCMA

This chappy is hunting for the elusive 'constructive dismissal'. So long as you keep detailed records of all his mis-deeds and have the evidence to prove he wasnt at work then nothing to worry about. The CCMA have a soft spot for Employee's, but the sheer number of reviews taken to the Labour...

    bargain beyers

Landed up grabbing the Headzone home set, supremely impressive for the price, still havent played with it properly but it sounds like Beyers should, nice and clean with decent punch. Tks for the heads up grumpybear  :dop:

    Audio Porn: Audio-Technica AT-HA5050H

$6k  :o that's close on R70 000.00 :moron: Im sorry that price is madness, no way that can be justified. Sure its pretty, I'm sure it sounds excellent but 70k for a headphone amp/DAC

what gear are you looking to in 2015

Headphones: The Audioquest Nighthawk Maybe Grado PS1000 or HiFiman HE6 (maybe their replacement is coming soon given the overhaul of the he500 and 400) Probably a nice DAC, would love the Antelope Audio Zodiac, but the price hurts abit

    Audeze LCD-2 on Gumtree

Well they 1000$ retail plus shipping and vat/customs, they can be had for abit less, but locally the HD800 are cheaper. The two headphones are very different to one another, the Audeze paints with a smoother but thicker brush, gets along well with almost all genres while the HD 800 is picky...
