Also quite keen to know if someone has done side by side comparisons of the processor vs the similar range high end avr. As an example, the latest one is the marantz 8805, how does that compare to a sr8012 and is there enough to be heard to warrant going with the dedicated processor>?

The other noteworthy point is that you also get a view on what the value of good gear on the second hand market is actually worth. Brand new pricing on high end gear these days can quickly run past a bar. I saw post today for cable that runs in a couple hundred grand.
