    Floor-standing speakers with a R140k budget?

That sounds like an awesome combo. 👌🏻

Looking for equivalent car head unit locally

Here's another vote for Alpine. Had one, then installed another brand, and now I'm back to Alpine, and I'm gonna stay with Alpine.

    Floor-standing speakers with a R140k budget?

Agreed 100%. Upgrade the front-end and amplification first. This done you might find yourself so satisfied that you will forget upgrading for a while. Then use that time to save up and also audition various speakers in your system. The units mentioned above vary a lot in their strengths and...

I see HFX has a pair of these...

I think the above illustration is very accurate and valid. A Lamborghini traveling within the speed limit won't get you from point A to point B any faster, but the driving thrill and enjoyment will be much greater in the Lamborghini. OTOH, some folks may appreciate a Rolls-Royce more for the...

    Introductions Thread

Welcome to the madne..., I mean, the forum, Francois. 😄 😂 I may laugh, but for many of us this is an addiction. Now that is a rare beast, indeed. I did not know that Gunter Steinhart made amps with valve other than the 519s. I really hope you can get another. These are legendary...

    Nelson Pass AB100

That sounds awesome. Are there still boards available for these amps?

    Nelson Pass AB100

This is something I'd like to know too. Anyone with experience of both amps willing to hesitate an answer. Not throwing shade at Rotel at all, I'd just like to know where to classify this amp.

    Audio Payola

I think some reviewers have a preference for a brand because the house sound is closer to their own preference ITO sound. The thing is, you have to understand the preferences of different reviewers, and thereby you will draw the most value from their reviews.

    Emigration dilema

I looked them up- they are called 'LFE tactile transducers', or simply 'bass shakers'. The easiest way to feel the bass without your neighbors doing the same.

    Emigration dilema

How about these low frequency generators that shake your chair (can't remember the name for them)- no sub needed. The soundproofing will take care of the higher frequencies.

    Emigration dilema

Can I offer an alternate idea/solution: how about adding a false wall with heavy padding (rockwool or something of the like) between the existing wall and the false wall. It might reduce the space somewhat, but I think being able to watch movies and live in peace with the neighbors might be...

    GR-Research info & import duties

@faba1979 , did you end up building the XLS Encore? And if so, what do you think. I have looked at the GR Research stuff myself, and might consider getting a pair myself someday.

Fostex drivers with Prestik stuck on between magnet and cage???

They usually use rope caulk, but it is meant to reduce resonances between the frame and magnet, and vibrations in the frame itself.

Books that you think everyone should read (note the limits)

I had them all in softcopy, and read them all. Brilliant. By my favorite book by him was The Walking Drum. It was not set in the west, but in the middle east. Superb book, and such a pity that he did not write any more before his death.

Books that you think everyone should read (note the limits)

This happens so often. Like the Jason Bourne books vs. the movies. The worst one ever was the movie version of Battlefield Earth. Half of the book left out, and what was there was terrible!

Books that you think everyone should read (note the limits)

Oh, and another I really enjoyed: ▶️ Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins - Left Behind series (fiction, but very good)

Books that you think everyone should read (note the limits)

I wouldn't say these influenced my way of life, per se, but I seriously enjoyed them and suggest reading them for fun. Let's start with fiction, off the top of my head (more to follow): ▶️ Wilbur Smith books (any one, just not the coauthored ones, they're terrible) ▶️ L Ron Hubbard - Battlefield...
