    Heatpumps

FWIW, I have 3 off 3.5kw Sirair units fitted about 10-12 years ago (when Eskom were doing the rebate on heat pumps and solar geyser heating). Eskom claimed 36 month break even. My experience as follows: 1. Breakeven appeared to be shorter at 27 months (but I did make other comparatively small...

    Am I wasting amplification?

Welcome to the HiFi rabbit hole.... I think many of the challenges are already listed by everyone that had already responded. To add to what @pwatts said WRT pro audio gear, its relatively common practice on active studio monitors for them to be bi-amped with a smaller amp on the HF driver and...

Computer sound card with Co-ax out (spdif)

Thanks @chrisc . That looks like exactly the same text as from the manual I looked at. I would however prefer to get a unit with the optical interface as well which then makes like a lot more complicate for DIY

Computer sound card with Co-ax out (spdif)

Any idea who might stock this type of widget locally? Need on for a gigabyte Z790UD board, but even the manual doesn't mention a gigabyte part number and googling seem to suggest it is something out a generic part that fits any mobo? Want avoid a lemon that might damage a rather expensive mobo...

    Heat pump installer

My non Kwikot units also transmit vibration, which, in turn cause a noise if vibration isolators are not used, (as does most rotating equipment that has any out of balance). Make sure the chaps that install properly isolate the unit from the mounting bracket. Things to look out for: 1. there...

    Solar Subsidy

I hear you, but let me play devils advocate - maybe the high tax payers should get something back since they are the ones that pay for most for the state costs - and are most likely able to do something. Having said the above, I'm guessing you are pensioner which is why you are aggrieved? Just...

    Solar Subsidy

Not a great rebate, but certainly better than a kick in the teeth. It covers up to reasonable size installation - think 12x+/-550w panels (with the Rand tanking, I can't see you getting a 550w panel for under R4000 each in the near future). Ironically I think it helps those with existing systems...

Rainy weather and my solar system

Consider putting in a heat pump - cost a bit more, but will save you in the long run. Will also draw less power (leaving more of your 8kw available for other things) and provide heating similar to existing 4kw element

    Clothes sizes, getting smaller?

That is whole debate on its own - pressure to be 'a good corporate citizen' and tell everyone you support xyz or be 'a good corporate citizen' and stop interfering in politics

    Clothes sizes, getting smaller?

As long as it doesn't say 'one person at a time' when you climb on it.....

    Clothes sizes, getting smaller?

Put myself in the fridge to 'chill out' for a while - maybe I'll shrink?

    Clothes sizes, getting smaller?

I don't think the sizes have changed - at least not for me. I do think the cuts have changed. There is is this trend to 'slim fit' which makes things too small if you are overweight or carry muscle mass, so if you are not slim, you have to buy up in size I run into this occasionally with shirts...

    Wristwatch,any love?

At least on time pieces its right or its not and relatively easily measurable - S/N ratio just a function of how loud it ticks

Vinyl is dead, whats up with that, why the resurgence now?

LOL - Glad to hear you are still young - In this instance the "older folk" I was referring to were those that grew up with Vinyl. If you were "older folk" and grew up with CDs, then I'm a relic - but still want to be "younger folk"

Vinyl is dead, whats up with that, why the resurgence now?

I get the tactile thing, I agree the artwork on some album covers was awesome (can't comment on current because I haven't used LPs recently) but from a sound quality point of view, when CDs came on the scene there were definitely, for me at least, improvements in sound quality (or perhaps...

    Wolla's Solar Hybrid Install

How much is lightning strikes a risk in your area @Wolla ? I'm in JHB so lightning is an issue here but thus far (touch wood) no issues with lightning on my 2 Sunsynk 8kw units and I've had a few very close strikes recently (though it is not for a second to say they are immune). I have load...
