Help with some woodwork screens/wings for my OB's please

...but: If you outsource this then how will you improve your own DIY skills Meneer? Nobody becomes expert at something  by outsourcing the work  :dop: Also, I don't need to tell you that "as cheap as possible" and good workmanship / quality are mutually exclusive concepts  :OMG: Kind...

Help: Building a set of bookshelf speakers

Don't use solid wood to build the cabinet.  MDF, chipboard, plywood, etc will work. Just because some people seem to get away with it doesn't mean it's a good thing to do. If you really can't justify buying a sheet of MDF then go and buy some raw chipboard shelves from your local hardware...

    Speaker build ideas

On this front I have been busy bonding parts together and milling brackets. Here is a pic of some pieces being bonded: And here are some of the parts I have been milling on MountainMan.  They are not finished yet, just finished milling: Here you can see what the part looks like...

    MountainMan CNC build

Update time! I managed to mount the new spindle, got the wiring sorted out, connected and programmed the new VFD and ran the bearings in.  Here are some pics of the new setup: The new spindle is far heavier than the previous one, so to help the Z-axis motor overcome gravity I...

Help: Building a set of bookshelf speakers

What tends to happen with newbie builders is that they tend to want to build the ultimate speaker / enclosure straight off the bat... Nothing wrong with wanting to have all your bases covered, but my honest advice is this: Stop stressing about all these details and just start making sawdust...

    Sunfire re-cap project

Beautifully done & thanks for the detailed writeup  I can appreciate the effort and commitment in time with a project like this. Now you are done you will have so much free time that you won't quite know what to do with yourself  ;D Kind regards, Ian.

    How to choose speaker drivers?

It will probably work, but I don't recommend it... Crossing over an 8" driver to a 0.75" tweeter is stretching things a bit much, and 5kHz on an 8" means you are very deep into beaming territory. Rather get a smaller bass driver and a bigger tweeter so you can cross around the 3kHz mark. Kind...

Help: Building a set of bookshelf speakers

I suggest you do a simple build for now. After you finish up you can evaluate (listen) a bit, and if the speakers have potential you can always build a more fancy cab later and transplant the drivers. Kind regards, Ian.

    DIY sub build

...you will need to play with WinISD and run some sims before deciding with what to go.  Don't just buy the first good looking car sub you see because most car subs aren't suited to home use. They tend to have high Fs and Qts which isn't what we want. Do some homework and you will find suitable...

    DIY sub build

Some of the JL audio and MTX drivers are workable - they have ts parameters which you can use to do some simulation work. If you want cheaper, there are a number of Targa and Starsound drivers which have reasonable parameters, though these guys dont normally publish the parameters which makes...

    DIY Power Amplifier: PALADIN SM-150

Sorry to hear about your drama Sean. Unfortunately this is one of the drawbacks to buying inexpensive heatsinks (I have the same issues wit mine). A similarly sized section from Fischer or Aavid will cost you triple the amount, but it will be flat and square. For the money they want, I much...

Help: Building a set of bookshelf speakers

As a minimum you need to lign the enclosure inside with dog blanket. It can be glued or stapled -whatever is easiest for you. Don't worry about 100% coverage - if you can manage at least 80% then that will be fine. 2 reasons for this: it helps damp any panel resonances and will help take care...

Help: Building a set of bookshelf speakers

If you plan on wrapping with vinyl then use a seperate plastic port. With the flare cut into the wood like I do it, it will be nearly impossible to terminate the vinyl in a clean way.  The PC with round over option is only really good if you paint that panel. The port length is the total length...
