    New Kef LS50 Meta

Thanks for the intro Felix. It looks like a well engineered product and should be an excellent option for people requiring a classy and capable bookshelf speaker. I would like to try a pair one day and see for myself how close it gets to OB sound, but will take Steve?s word for now.

Dewalt or Stanley 18v Cordless Drills

I stick to Bosch Professional cordless tools wherever possible. I'm sure Makita and DeWalt are both solid cordless options too. I may be wrong, but I think only Bosch and Makita (and maybe Metabo) have been consistently well represented locally over the past few decades. I have a few corded...

    Value for money audiophile headphones

Your findings cannot be any further from my own. I'm running straight off my PC and could not hear any benefit from using the iPower 5V PS in my system. How much time have you spent with the Zen Dac, was it fully 'run in' and which interconnects did you use?

    Value for money audiophile headphones

Your statement above, is that when using the dac as a pure dac, bypassing the 'pre-amp'/volume control ?

What size battery to power my HiFi ?

Yes Bernard, it could work the way you plan to use it. Depending on your phone's features, you may be able to add a Micro-SD card to your phone, which would make for a less unwieldy setup. Its great that that particular board has both BT 5.0 as well as AUX IN via a 3.5mm input. The pairing...

    Members' Kit pics

Thanks Aaron, they are the best speakers I?ve had (that I can pickup myself) They are nicely balanced, dig surprisingly deep, and I don?t hear ?box?, they simply disappear. In short, glad they did not sell when I had them up in the classifieds.

    Audioquest A Fool Again

I so agree naughty I do not know how to describe it in Audiophile speak, but the Sky?s are simply perfect. Its like there is no cable. Its as if all the frequencies comes through perfectly and with perfect timing. The bass is also exceptional, not that its accentuated, its just that more bass...

    Audioquest A Fool Again

The very best RCA cables I've experienced is the AQ Sky. They really are excellent. Don't know much about the other models though. I take whatever Amir says with a big pinch of salt. His measurements very seldom support what one hears.

What are the best bookshelf speakers you have heard?

I have not had that many bookshelf speakers, but from the ones I have heard/had, I preferred the Mission M51.

Going in circles : BTR5 or the iFi Zen DAC

The short answer is: Yes, for sure. Yes, IMHO Only if you need it to be a portable solution Both are pretty future proof for what they are, but future proof has become a relative term. The ZEN DAC is future proof, in that you can add a ZEN CAN headphone amp later for a decent stack...

    Wireless headsets

Drifter have you perhaps considered this Plantronics 2nd set which I have for sale? https://www.avforums.co.za/index.php/topic,89942.0.html They are pretty good in my opinion and I even use them for music. They also mute the music while getting calls and then start playing again once the call...

Is really necessary to spend megabucks to get good sound?

I would like to think that its possible. Only problem is that Affordable and Megabucks are relative terms and mean vastly different numbers for different folks. Anyway, I'm really ecstatic with the performance of my current (main) stereo system in my home-office which I use many hours every...

    FiiO BTR5 Using Sabre DACs

chrisc I have JRiver and can control the volume from within JRemote on any remote smart device. This is for when I have the BTR5 connected up as an inline USB DAC. Not sure what the other Music Server products offer as far as this is concerned. NS: Me no expert though  :giggle: However, when...

    FiiO BTR5 Using Sabre DACs

Thanks for the heads-up chrisc I've also upgraded mine now to ver 2.0, looks like it was released 2 days ago. Windows link here: http://www.fiio.me/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=45053&extra=page%3D1 Its pretty easy to upgrade.

What size battery to power my HiFi ?

That is basically the exact one that I have. Believe me when I tell you that even a 5V power-bank will power it well enough for normal listening levels on all of your speakers. I?ve even used it for the Maggies I recently had. I did quite an extensive thread on battery powered ?HiFi?, however...

What size battery to power my HiFi ?

Cool, search for TPA3116 or TPA3116D2. If the SB can run off 5V all the better.

What size battery to power my HiFi ?

Interesting. I have 2 x Ellies trolley UPS units, one is a 12V (single battery) and the other is 24V (dual battery) and they both make lots of fan noise during load shedding and during the recharging straight after load shedding has stopped. They may have improved on the fan design a bit, since...
