Skyline Diffuser DIY - A question...

Absolutely. Please don't use open cell PU foam panels for general acoustics, its performance is just outright terrible. Melamine foam is a different story, but it's very pricey.

Skyline Diffuser DIY - A question...

1D diffusors have lower losses and maintain more horizontal energy. Diffusors absorb, just by a different mechanism (interference of time/phase-offset reflections).

Skyline Diffuser DIY - A question...

Diffusion and absorption are different sounding so placing an absorber to determine usefulness is not quite it. Diffusion is great when one has slap echo and/or hard reflections and needs to take mid range decay, it is also great for early reflections when one needs to increase the focus of a...

Skyline Diffuser DIY - A question...

Many ways to skin this cat, just read up on the different math to generator sequences. QRD best suited for welled diffusers. Last 8x4 set I did worked out to 3600 odd blocks.

    JHB Cable Listening Experiment

If the format is one of an ABX test on a blinded basis, I too would be keen date permitting. The last one I attended was near 15 years ago now. If it's a cable Tupperware party then at least there should be some interesting setup to listen to.

Sectional Title Locked Garage as Home Theater

The issue with garages is that the walls, windows, ceiling....everything just about except for the floor are not good at abating sound. That said, if one takes it on with some set goals from the outset, there are certainly many things one can do with a bit of dry walling, the right acoustic...

    JHB Cable Listening Experiment

There are parts of the audio chain where small improvements in behaviour are audible and there are also known mechanisms in psycho-acoustics and our understanding of the mechanics and neurology of the ear. Crossover distortion at -60dB and maybe more with higher SPLs is one of those. The key is...

    JHB Cable Listening Experiment

Audiophile accessory sales are unfortunately way too often selling perception biases to people either too affluent to care or those looking to show off and have an oddball story to go with it. The perception of recordings is strongly suggestive anyways so it's not surprising. That said, I like...

    Ibuprofen 400mg Tablets

For me when I skip things I know don't stand me well, I become more active, more motivated and more focussed. I used to have half a pharmacy of NSAIDs. Skip grains , seed oils, nightshades and legumes and life is just and order of magnitude better.

    Ibuprofen 400mg Tablets

NSAIDs are not smarties. Their long term effects are well studied they are ...not great. Worth a look are lifestyle interventions for inflammation like cutting out seed oils and reducing grain and refined carb intake. Not medical advice, just my experience.

Home Cinema build - Dedicated room (50% complete)

For the height...I would recommend some diffusion on the ceiling and skip over these gazillion channels, just my take on it. See that you wangle in as much of an air gap behind the wall treatment panels, rather have more treatment with some depth than end up with excess energy below 300Hz.

Home Cinema build - Dedicated room (50% complete)

Looking good. Cloth screens are often better acoustically than perf screens, it's often worth while addressing the detail of how the speaker interacts with the screen. I highly suggest filling in the gaps between speaker fronts and timber frame with something dense and looking at the detail...

Have you seen a value increase with Solar install on sale of your property?

That seems to be the case with the majority of sparkies installing Solar. Earth bonding relays, dodgy batteries, shoddy work, theft of cables, connectors, switchgear, etc. I am yet to see a single install go without snags and a fair share of them were....just plain reflective of the sparky's...

    No levy for solar users

Given the way things are headed, we will see a stiff increase in our baseline taxes all across the board, municipal, power, etc. If the leninist marxists get their way in tilting the economy towards an earlier demise VAT will likely get a good bump to fund some voter gifts to try extend their...

What is the optimal solar setup? Including geyser! “Dream team” equipment

My experience recently is that most sparkies are not competent to do a 3 phase hybrid solar install. Also it's a royal pain if there are sub-dBs to have all the functions catered for.

What is the optimal solar setup? Including geyser! “Dream team” equipment

There are some nice passive ways to smarten up systems as well. Hard contacts on inverters are great to flip some circuits to one side of the inverter and/or switch them off until batteries have been charged up.

What is the optimal solar setup? Including geyser! “Dream team” equipment

It is wise to size the system carefully and not overcapitalize. Enough PV to keep basics on on a rainy day, enough battery for a 4-6 hour outage and rather be in the black by year 3-4 than have to wait 10 years and already have to replace items. I highly doubt whether the municipalities will do...

    Solar advice

Powerforum should be read in conjunction with energy talk for balance. It depends on your usage scenario. If you have a fair bit of excess PV on most days, just use the geyser as a thermal mass store and use a simple controller to heat the tank to a higher set temp during solar production (one...

    Gas vs. Induction Hobs

Induction can heat surfaces very quickly and has less even top temperatures compared to gas. It's awesome for many things, but if one uses oil gas is still king.

Feeler: Bulk Lithium Battery Import (100Ah / 200Ah)

The challenge with DIY batteries lies with the logistics. The BMS on the 48V units is key. I wouldn't mind an 18S 280Ah bank, one can buy such things ready assembled in rack mountable cases.
