    Bookshelf speaker recommendations?

R5000 ceiling will mean specials need to be found.  Edifier with a phono pre amp added is an option.  R799 for the grooVcare phono.  I would avoid studio stuff as they generally have the volume control implemented in an awkward way if that?s the only volume control you use and often a...

    Bookshelf speaker recommendations?

The AM3 and AM5 are basically the excellent value and sound Alpha p3 and P5 with amplifiers built in.  Also included is a phono pre amp, optical digital in, line in, APTX Bluetooth, USB DAC input and a sub pre output.  REMOTE CONTROL! I have a set to demo!

    Do watts really matter?

It?s a bit more complex. Doubling of power is actually a 3 dB gain in spl but you lose several dB per metre distance.  Not a linear scale. At 2m it?s 6 dB down, 3m 9,5, 4m 12.4, 5m 13.9 dB You will need a given output voltage to maintain the level desired and the speaker impedance...

    Do watts really matter?

Coorection/PS Ultimately I think it?s really about an amplifier being able to sustain the desired (varying) output voltage irrespective of the loads (loudspeaker and crossover) reactive demands.  This seems a simple question of watts but in practice there seem more complex matters at play...

    Technics or marantz

I would bet on the Marantz.  just.  Sell both and use the money to buy something better than both for the purpose you want to use it for.  Good as AVRs can be a good stereo amp that is well regarded where only sound matters will smash most.

Summarised internet opinion and conjecture is what the OP was trying to get past imo. Flaming product and praising product you haven?t even heard is like celebrity worship.

    Beyerdynamic DT880 PRO 600ohm

Me I like them a lot.  250 to 600 is a substantial difference in drive requirements.

ADVICE NEEDED FOR A NEW DAC

Oh, and check the rca XLR switch is in the right spot on the power amp.

ADVICE NEEDED FOR A NEW DAC

Agree with Drifter suggestion and I don?t think it?s suggested as a permanent fix.  Rather it will establish if you need a DAC or more gain from whatever pre amp is used.

Where to buy a replacement Focal Spirit One headphone aux cable with mic

There is a fair chance that trimming a cm or 2 off the cable and fitting a new plug will sort it out. PM me and I can see if I can assist.

Where to buy a replacement Focal Spirit One headphone aux cable with mic

Eastern Acoustics were the Focal agents but I think it is now with a new crowd.  I may be wrong.  The product line ups may be split.  call eastern to start.  Have you lost your cable? Is it broken? If broken which part?

75ohm for digital co-ax, 50 ohm for analogue signals

Spdif termination I have found very important too (it can ?break? a good cable) and for co ax digital I try use connectors that allow me to fold back the screen and maintain its circular geometry.  For that reason, good as those Neutrik Rean 373 plugs are, they can be improved upon with for eg...

Philistine. Premier coating: Take five ounces of Greek pitch [galipot] or if you cannot find this, raw pine resin or some resin of Boulogne [Burgundy pitch]. Take also five ounces of the resin of Tyre or colophony, again if you cannot procure this you may use common resin [larch turpentine]...

    Philips workshop radio/amp

In my home  (flat actually) growing up was a unit that looked much like this.  It was our main music source.  There was also some cheesy record player with built in amplifier and speakers for weekends when records would get played.  After many years it just took so long to make sound and...
