Reunited with HD600's - Nuprime uDSD impressions

That is very wise indeed. Listen and explore, but when the time comes but well and buy once.

Reunited with HD600's - Nuprime uDSD impressions

I haven?t heard the Tone Board so can?t comment but there are definitely ?different AND better? headphones than the HD600 out there. The HD800 is one, though that is very different, while the ZMF Auteur is more similar to the HD600 but IMO better in every way, including generous dollops of sub...

New and highly effective noise-cancelling headphones

They can also be connected via cable, and if they have a cable input in each cup then they can be cabled balanced. So yes you can?t use them balanced and wireless at the same time but it would be nice to have the option when you?re not using them as wireless cans. And wired quality will always...

New and highly effective noise-cancelling headphones

They?ve only just been released but the one review I read compared them directly with the Senns and the reviewer suggested ANC is about the same (that being excellent) but build and sound quality of the M&D was well ahead of the pack. If they do indeed support a wired balanced connection they?ll...

    Going in a different direction

I think that?s a very sound plan, excuse the pun. The BTR3 and K3 will be useful until you get the M11, at which point you?ll have something more powerful and capable than both put together. I?d still keep them though, those little gadgets always come in handy. You?ll probably find M11 does a...

    Going in a different direction

You're going to be in for a treat! I have the first M11 in SA - at least I haven't heard of anyone else from our beloved country sneaking one out of China just yet :P A few have managed to trickle to the US via Aliexpress but by and large there's a huge buildup of people waiting for them to be...

New and highly effective noise-cancelling headphones

Definitely the best looking of the ANC cans out there (real leather and metal). No mention of AptX HD or LDAC though, which would make it unsuitable for Wireless HD listening, although the potential to use a balanced cable is interesting (can't tell from the specs if that's possible).

Astell&Kern XB10 Bluetooth amp opinions and possible group buy.

The only advantage this seems to have over the BTR3 is balanced output. Right now the best BT receiver on the market is the ES100, but that?s close to $100 before shipping and conversion. For $50 this is a bargain if you need it but I won?t be buying a receiver that doesn?t support LDAC at...

    First impressions on Audiogd 29.38

I was about to ask the same question. The R2R dac into the NFB amp should be superb, and you?ll then have the best of both worlds (organic R2R vs clinical Sabre dac). You can?t feed the NFB into the R2R-11 as far as I know. Enjoy, you have two great devices right there.

    Sennheiser HD800 OR Beyer-Dynamic T1, help please.

You can but I think they only sell multipacks of one size only I believe. Much easier and cheaper to order them off Amazon. You may also want to look into Dekoni Bulletz - cheaper and (IMO) nicer than Comply. Also washable unlike Comply. IEMs are easily the best bang for buck in transducers, but...

    Big soundstage headphones?

A few points Curlycat: The Darkvoice, being an OTL tube amp, is not ideal for low impedance planars. You?re probably not going to get the best of out the 4XX with the Darkvoice. A clean and detailed solid state amp with plenty of power will be a better match, even naughty?s ifi Micro BL. As...

    Big soundstage headphones?

Another pertinent question: what's the budget? Here we're assuming the OP wants a "starter kit" just because he's new to headphones. Truth be told, for relatively 'little' money compared to a decent speaker system you can get close to endgame in the headphone world. From experience, messing...

    Big soundstage headphones?

Yes, that?s a good budget option if you can?t stretch to the HD800 (which does everything better, not just soundstage). I?d go as far as to say the combination of stage, imaging and separation on the HD800, on a good system, can?t be vested at any price, which is remarkable when you consider a...

    Big soundstage headphones?

From what I've read you're going to really enjoy the HD800 for gaming. It's supposed to be the 'ultimate' gaming headphone. At least the DT990 seems to have a following in the gaming world. It's like a cheese grater for music (to my ears).

QUICK REVIEW: Pathos Aurium Headphone Amplifier

Great review, looks like an interesting amp indeed.

    Big soundstage headphones?

I second the AKGs. Had the K7xx and it had a great soundstage, comparable to the HD800. Of course the AKGs (even the good ones) can?t match the HD800 for SQ or build quality, but few cans can. Then again the K7xx can be had for a small percentage of the HD800 cost. Ask Scubadude about the K7xx...

    my serious start

Unfortunately the pops and 2s mute are part and parcel of the ifi dac. I think there?s a firmware version that reduces the mute length but the DSD pops are permanent. FWIW the R2R-11 has the same DSD pops; this happens because there are actually two separate dac sections for DSD and PCM, and...

How does one buy from Massdrop in SA

That?s odd, I have a standard account and I?ve never been charged volumetric weight. Clearing fees yes, but that?s only R50 and only if customs charge you VAT/duties (which they don?t on low cost items). Just one thing to note, from my own bitter experience - don?t try ship anything with a...

    my serious start

Great story, and good luck on your journey. You?re only at the very start of what?s possible in head-fi. Don?t be too put off by the size of the local head-fi community, because the world really is your oyster (especially once you get a drop ship account like AGS and can get your goodies from...

    The holy Grell leaves Sennheiser

His greatest achievement came 10 years ago and no-one has really been able to improve on it since then, not even him. The HD820 by all accounts is an overpriced mess, and there's nothing really new or innovative coming out (that we know of anyway). Let's hope it's the start of something new and...
