    Please help identify DSOTM release

Asked the same question to ChatGPT (subscription version, model 4o), and the answer seems more realistic, although I didn't verify. And it seems to understand the audience a bit better, as per the opening line of the answer (my emphasis...): Audiophiles are notoriously picky, and The Dark Side...

    Advice needed regarding Faulty Marantz

It's worth having someone knowledgeable take a look, especially since you're just trying to fix the amp, not the AVR bits. Fixing the AVR functionality is definitely not worth it.

New lounge set up Advice not music / audio dedicated but needs to be good

You seem to have a particular idea of what you want to do with the room, and that's fine. Real-life conditions are a factor almost everyone has to deal with, unless you are able to kit out a fully treated music room. So it doesn't really matter what anyone here thinks. Start with what you...

    Post Office question

In 2015 I ordered Chris Cornell's Songbook from Amazon in the UK for GBP30. It never arrived, thanks to useless SAPO. Prices now start at R5000. Yes, I'm still bitter about it.

    International Shipping

Wow, who still uses HelloPeter? One or two 1-star reviews for a global logistics service, when shipping was booked over the festive season, seems like the usual it's-easier-to-complain-than-leave-a-compliment story. Have only had occasional hiccups with Aramex and it was always resolved, rest...

Possible reasons for no video from AVR to TV?

I had this problem on Friday night. Turned out the little one had somehow changed it to Pure Direct mode. Sound played, but no picture. So just check that audio settings are on "Auto". I think Denon has a similar setting? Other thing that sometimes helps me with glitches in general is to...

Balanced Extension Cable - Anywhere Local?

Check with HFX Systems (ask Wayne). They made up a 5m XLR cable set when I wanted to used my headphone DAC with my main system.

    B&W PV1D still a good option?

You just have to test it and make sure that both drivers are producing sound without any weird noises or rattles. With a bit of luck the marks are just cosmetic. You will notice physical movement of the drivers, which is normal, but you don't want to see abnormal extrusion/oscillation. The...

    B&W PV1D still a good option?

That is a great price. I saw several PV1 models (not PV1D!) for sale recently for slightly over R7k. So provided it works properly despite the cosmetic issues, R6k is a bargain. I purchased a used PV1D for about double that price and still felt like I got a great deal. (It retailed for over...

    ADVICE NEEDED FOR NEW MEMBER

This is from the AVSA review (of the PL Audio kit) and comment on the built-in phono: "With the bulk of my technical review of the PL Audio duo out the way, I moved on to listen to its phono card. This proved to simply be one of the best phono stages I’ve listened to in a long time. It easily...

    ADVICE NEEDED FOR NEW MEMBER

The MF looks like a simplified entry level phono. It will no doubt be very good, but if the PL phono is known to be quite special (and presumably in a very different price range), then it should offer a substantial improvement. And I agree with @seanjammy , do not underestimate the impact the...

    Bentley acoustics RF-2 help

Yes it would, but 100Hz is too high. 80Hz is the general standard, and is usually the default on most AVRs, and that is more than enough. The Bentleys of course go lower, but once you add the sub, you set the XO to 80Hz, and set all speakers to SMALL.

    Bentley acoustics RF-2 help

This is excellent advice. It seems counter-intuitive, but if you are using a sub, all the speakers (regardless of their physical size, or whether they're shelf or floorstanders) should be set to SMALL. By doing this, the AVR will treat all the speakers the same, which results in a far better...

    Speaker Selector A/B

I think you'll be quite safe with brands like QED. And yes, arguably there will be some risk of signal degradation, but it's probably neglible relative to the utility you need (switching between speakers). But to do it properly, you'd want to purchase proper switches and matching cables for...

    Speaker Selector A/B

That said… I’m not a big fan of “certain speakers for certain genres”. As amazing as your current speakers are, I suspect your right choice (for you) is still out there in the wild. You could arguably sell both sets and buy up into a more expensive range (or brand) that ticks more boxes for...

    Speaker Selector A/B

Just google “speaker switch box”. There are options on the market from QED, Wharfedale and even a very neat-looking option from Temu. You’d just need an extra set of cables, and presumably you’d need a switch for each speaker (depending on the device). You connect the amp to the switch, and...

    Predator Upgrades

Echoing what others have said, but the answer to a hiss in one channel can surely not be that the rating of the capacitors in the power supply (which will affect both channels) are sub-optimal...? Changing the ratings of any individual component without the support of the original designer is...

    First impressions: NAD T778

I know you said you're used to Land Rovers, but surely no piece of hifi kit is worth this level of pain? Are you stuck with NAD and this model?
