That was one of the first things I tried, Robert, but thanks for the guidance. Even using the same HDMI cable to connect directly to the TV produces both video and audio. This weekend, I'm going to remove the TV from the equation and replace it with my bedroom TV to see what effect that has, if any.

Further update: the optical cable solved the sound issue but something else incredibly irritating has reared its head. Every time I rewind the BR player and press play, the AVR changes mode to TV Audio (ARC). This happens on every occasion without fail. I suspect I need to fiddle with the TV's...

She landed up getting the Q60R - but not from Makro as they ran out of stock. So I did some research online and found out that Kloppers was offering the same TV at R11.7k and Game at R15k. Off we went to Game and told them to beat the Kloppers price - which they did! A decent chunk of change saved.

Does your router have quality-of-service settings? You can usually limit the speeds offered to a particular IP address (your device) using QOS.

An update here: I've used the optical port on the back of BR player directly into the AVR - the sound is back. I'm still determined to get to the bottom of the no-sound-via-HDMI issue, though, so if anyone has any ideas about how to rid myself of it, I'm all ears!

Nice summary! Nail on the head. I checked the troubleshooting guide in the BR player's manual and I made that change between Auto and PCM as it and you suggested. I did it while all the devices were switched on so I'll try while the AVR is off tonight. Hopefully that'll solve the issue! But...

I did hot-swapping at the time but then turned the multiplug to which the whole lot is connected off at the wall. Didn't help. I did a factory reset of both the AVR and the BR player yesterday morning. Still no luck. Good thinking, though!
