Get your own back at telemarketers

I just had a call from MiWay trying to better my current car insurance premiums. They've tried thrice before so I didn't want to give them the time of day this time around. But the agent was insistent so I came up with a doozy: "This call is being recorded, right?" "Yes." "Okay, I'll make you a...

    Classic FM is no more

That's a pity. Perhaps it was for the sake of being "edgy" but edgy can be infuriating.

    Classic FM is no more

That's better. The fact is that Hot is a leading station in South Africa. Being able to raise R3m+ for charity in just over 12 hours is a good indicator of that. Hot has got its (rather large) niche because it appeals to people who used to listen to Highveld Stereo before the "change". And the...

    Classic FM is no more

Might I ask who amongst Hot's daytime line-up you don't fancy? Reason for my question is that none of them come across to me as "trashy".

    Classic FM is no more

Hot's community radio station licence limited the transmission power on 91.9. Moving to a commercial licence (adopting Classic's licence, strictly speaking, because new commercial licences are almost impossible to obtain from ICASA) and taking over Classic's stronger transmitter on 102.7 means...

    Classic FM is no more

Primedia used to be the absolute cream-of-the-crop in South African radio. Every aspiring presenter and radio journalist wanted in. With four of the biggest stations in the country and the excellent news service EWN in the stable, it was surely difficult for the group to suffer any listener...

Good thing you aren't an analyst in the radio industry then, huh? Silly thing to say.

Get your own back at telemarketers

The best tool in the book is to tell them you're receiving a call from a client/your boss and you'll put them on hold. Leave it for about 10 minutes and you'll likely find they've rung off already. Very little effort and time wasted.

    Classic FM is no more

You all ought to know that Classic still streams online and Hot Classic (featuring Carolyn Steyn) is on the FM frequency between 19h00 and 22h00 each weeknight. :ROFLMAO: at all the folks saying that Hot102.7 isn't worth the attention. Might I suggest you tune your receivers to 947 in that case?

    Bean to Cup Machine

I have a Saeco Royal Cappucino that I need to get rid of. It looks like this: My folks used it extensively but gave it to me when they emigrated to the UK. I'm not a coffee fan so I barely use it.

Anyone know how to contact Openserve directly?

CISP is so good that I dreaded the day another ISP or entity would catch onto the idea and buy them. That day is now upon us... I'll jump ship faster than Zuma replaces lawyers if CISP sets even one Afrihost-infected foot wrong.

    Recommended SA Netflix viewing list

If you like animated films and you appreciate memes and adult suitable for adults, The Mitchells vs the Machines is absolutely excellent. I'm planning on watching it again.

    Reminiscing - HMV Oxford str

I bought a whole lot of TopGear DVDs and a few other CDs from the Piccadilly Circus store when it was closing down probably 13 years ago - I was 17 at the time. Got them all for an absolute steal. I remember visiting the Oxford Street store. What an emporium that was - like Look & Listen but on...

The best way to remove water marks from a windscreen

The damage inflicted by car covers is totally dependent on how well they're fastened down. I use a ratchet strap with each end of the strap secured to the eyelets on each side of the cover, more-or-less in the middle of the cover. I then make sure the strap is tight so that the cover doesn't...

    What lawyers want

Much like Pax said, the R750 likely relates to what happens behind the scenes: considering the matter and whether the "bog standard" approach will be proper in the particular case. The matter might seem quite common on the face of it but there are often nuances that need to be considered. It...

    What lawyers want

You could challenge that with the Legal Practice Council. There's a chance that the attorney would counter that he had to consider your instruction (because saying "that sounds good" implies that you're instructing him based on what he earlier proposed). I agree with you on the whole, though. I...

    What lawyers want

You're quite right. But if all lawyers were bound to charge the minimum prescribed fees and nothing more, nobody would ever want to become a lawyer. See how the world goes without a wide variety of legal specialists available to sort the sh*t out... Typically, a lawyer and his client sign a fee...
