    Where to from here?

It is interesting reading your post. I have the same 1080, previously on a Rotel Pre of the same age, and driving a set of Kef iQ 90's. I also got the "shrilly" fatiguing top end with bad quality CD from my Cambridge CXC S2 , almost unlistenable. I managed to upgrade my pre to an RC1572 mark ll...

    How much do cables matter?

I really enjoyed this thread. I find it amazing the scope of opinion shared & some of the big ego's sticking thier necks out to make a point. From resonances to materials, conductivity, data packets & build quality. From the myriad of physical (tangible} charateristics of the "accessory" there...

    Materials for inexpensive speaker isolation

A large tube of silicone, punch it full of tiny holes using a bradwal. Leave to set fir a month. Tear it open gently and you will be left with solid silicone cylinder to cut discs of needed thickness. Use a breadslicer for goid clean cuts.

    How much do cables matter?

These reviews are seen everywhere. As apposed to what if it delivers a confident and enjoyable sound? No sharpness or brightness to speak of. As apposed to what? Cheapy generics supplied with cheapy systems?

Thanks Chris, I must say, Paul of PS audio also says this, Wave at its least compressed istheway to go. On my files, at least, when looking at a wave file on an spectrum analyser they appear to have a more "consistent" graphic pattern... If that sounds logical. Sans gaps, bars and voids? When...

    How much do cables matter?

Great thread for a newby. Got a lot about cables here. So as I see it, cables are an important part of "the journey". When buying a piece of equipment the cable is an part of your commitment to give the piece the best chance to perform to its potential and deliver on an expectations of your...

    Spectrum Analyser

Obviously, I am not a fundi on the detail, but I hear most of what you talk about when listening. It is a VERY Technical field. Jeez... For me and IMHO quality of digital files' sound differs so much so that I can't say a song at 24bit is going to sound better than a 16bit file. Or any...

Your link "hirez" is excellent. I'd say your tutorage was very good. I have some Beatles flac files, I took off my computer. Just sounded crap. Even with digital enhancement, to me some stuff is so bad, breathless, its unlistenable.

    Spectrum Analyser

So essentially what understand is that our hearing, at best is around 20kHz, possibly with kit on the lower "audiophile" end it will still reproduce the file but above 20 it is virtually white noise of no musical value. So essentially 48kHz 24 bit is the way to listen & store digital files...

    Spectrum Analyser

This is a Spec SA of the same file. I see what you are saying. I suppose I need to dabble a bit more to see how to see the Audacity capacity. I have a number of files that are 48 kHz 24 bit, but there is no "blank bar" in the frequency, and they go unbroken to around 35kHz & 50Khz. Recorded at...

    Spectrum Analyser

This is a cropped screenshot by Audacity, an app I ought online. An image of a Spectrum Analysis of a 88.2 kHz, 24 bit music file, showing the left channel above to 48 kHz, an the bottom, half of the right channel to 48kHz. If you zoom in there is a distinct bar showing very little information...

    Rotel RB 1080 Woes

My 1080, when working properly is a great piece of kit. Very powerful. A while ago I was tinkering around swopping out components and speakers doing what we do. As I had done many times prior, I switched on the amps, the protection lights came on and off one channel when dead. I switched...

Hi Chris Thank you for taking time to give me this info. I will most definately consider and tinker about all of these options I have been so helpfully advised on. It does seem I have neglected the benefits of dedicated external DACS/soundcards better suited to digital stereo listening. Best...

I have very little understanding of streamers, and yours has a "What hi-fi's 5 star" review. Expensive though 🤗 Im still old shool with my computer, letting th Pre do the lifting. But have some idea now how to incrementally improve my lot. My Pre has a Sabre DAC in five channels, so I understand...

Hi Marc I have a CXC S2 transport, no internal DAC, hooked up through it's toslink output in or I can use the SPDIF Coax into my Pre-amp. Very happy.
