    Bluetooth Receiver with Optical/COAX Output

I'm confused by the description of the Ugreen product. It appears to be a transmitter, not a receiver. Surely you are looking for a receiver to attach to your DAC?

Hiss on left channel...except during load shedding.

All these causes don't answer the question why the noise is on one channel as opposed to both channels. The assumption seems to be that the noise is injected via the power supply but why then only on one channel?

Hiss on left channel...except during load shedding.

I think Gerlach offered good advice. But if that does not fix your problem, maybe check the earth to your amp, assuming it has an earth - many modern amps seem to be earthless. If it is the earthless variety, maybe set up an earth line to the metal work on the amp box, or to the dedicated earth...

    Speaker Plinth - Carpenter

Thankyou Toxxyc for a wonderful writeup and sharing such useful info. I your opinion, could one actually use Vanish O2 in place of SPC to clean AlO2 off components?

    Source recordings & Microphone response

Yes, there is a difference in the detail of the mic curve and RIAA curve but the mic curve drops in the bass region and rises in the mid treble region before tailing down. So, presumably, some equalization has to be applied to the mic response to get a flat line response suitable for digital...

    Source recordings & Microphone response

The frequency response curve shown above looks as it has been tailored to suit the RIAA curve used to master LPs. Comments on this observation will be interesting.

    Spikes yes or no?

On a hard surface floor (tiles), my experience is that solid rubber feet e.g. door stoppers, improved the sound of my tower speakers a lot, compared to the spikes they had with them on delivery. A teak parquet floor qualifies as a hard surface. I will in future not use spikes unless the floor...

When to get a bigger centre speaker and bigger rear surrounds? (Bentley FC100 vs FC150 and FR50 vs FR80)

I think a fully matching speaker system should intuitively trump a mix and match system, so if you plan to slowly change over to a full set of Bentley's, get the FC100s.

When to get a bigger centre speaker and bigger rear surrounds? (Bentley FC100 vs FC150 and FR50 vs FR80)

Hi, I was also in a similar position to you, once. Also listening in a small room. A center speaker has been essential to improve dialogue in movies and, depending on whether you use surround sound processing, very useful for that as well. Relying on stereo speakers to create a phantom center...

    JHB Cable Listening Experiment

Agree with your suggestion. Basically, the cable gauges have to match to achieve resistance parity. Inductance and capacitance can be different as it is in these dimensions, once R has been matched, that cheap versus expensive cables are likely to differ in audible, if any, differences. Also...

    Sonor Audio

What is the upgrade to Claro 6.1's? First time I hear about this and how do I know if my Claro 6.1's qualify for this upgrade? Thanks.

    Ear Pain and Pressure

I will speculate that the pain in your ears might be too much volume coupled with distortion in the room caused by resonance. The pressure feeling could be subsonic resonance. Consider moving the speakers forwards or backwards or towards or away from the sidewalls, a bit, to break up any...

    JHB Cable Listening Experiment

Years ago, I had a girlfriend with a simple Pioneer system - amp, turntable and crappy loudspeakers that looked as if they had been locally made by the furniture chain that sold the system. The speaker wires were thin twinflex, even thinner than the standard 5 amp twinflex commonly used for...

    Sonor Audio

Good to see that Sonor is spreading its wings. I find Sonor speakers to be quite clinical in sound, excellent detail but needing valve amplification for counterbalancing the cool sound signature. I would like to hear from other users what their Sonor Audio experience has been like.

    Old Loudspeakers, no more

I want to mention some old loudspeakers I've come across or heard about. Maybe some equally vintage Forum members will be able to add more information. 1. I was a regular user of Hamrad in Cape Town in the early 60's and their catalogue carried a wonderful array of electronic items, including a...

    Gas vs. Induction Hobs

I take it you mean that in order to use a gas hob successfully, one has to be crafty?
