    Some news for 2023.

Absolutely! Have a BIG project in mind for winter, just too much rain in JHB at the moment, can't work outside much. Gonna be watching this very keenly.

    Need help understanding railway sleepers!!!

Hmm, I can't say I know anything about railway sleepers, all I know is that Lance Klusener's bat was made out of one.

    Bentley fs120 upgrade path

^ This! Even if you don't go for FS150s or FS250s, a power amp driving the FS120s will make a difference. As everyone else has said, you'll have to spend a lot of money to get anything better than the Bentleys for HT. I'd say don't bother with 4 ATMOS speakers unless you're in a big room, 2 is...

    Wolla's Solar Hybrid Install

Very nice setup! (y) At some stage, you'll probably want more panels to keep 6 batteries charged, especially in the WC winters. I have 7200W of panels, and it's only just been able to charge my 7.2kW battery by the end of the day the last couple of months. It's been very cloudy and stormy on...

    Fried Devialet expert

I have one of those exact same amps, they're really crap!! Only good for subwoofer duties. :ROFLMAO:

Really understanding the difference between 5kw and 8kw system

Yup, most inverters do allow you to go over their rated capacity for a short time before they beep or shutdown. Some can handle double their rated capacity for a couple of seconds to handle switching on of inductive loads. Sometimes the lights flick briefly when I switch on my Rotel RB-985 power...

    Reputable Data Recovery

I think it was around R10k. It was a 500GB drive that had video clips on it.

    Reputable Data Recovery

Arrgh! I feel for you! I used CSSI in Midrand about 10 years ago for a client. They recovered the data but weren't cheap. As with any HDD failure, it all depends on how it failed whether the data will be recoverable or not. 011 541 9900

    Embarking on Solar Stuffs......

I have no experience with the Luxpower inverters, but looking at the manual, https://luxpowertek.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/SNA5000WPV-UM-210604.pdf it appears to be a decent inverter. It has a separate generator input, it seems to be on the Cape Town approved inverter list, just can't...

    Solar basics and automation

All much of a muchness. JA, Canadian and Jinko are all tier 1 manufacturers, can't go wrong with any of them.

Yamaha new to me just arrived, YP-D10 TT and CR-2040

Incredible stuff Sarel! (y) Looking amazing, and replacing all the caps, pots etc is definitely a labour of love. Can't wait to see the final result.

    Yamaha or Bentley Acoustics

Yup, absolutely agree with that, I moved my FS-150s to my stereo setup from my HT. They sound superb, however, I think they're just a bit too bass heavy at times. (although it is a lot of fun to crank up Rammstein or other bass heavy tracks every now and again) The FS-120s are really well balanced.

    Yamaha or Bentley Acoustics

They certainly will still sound good on an x2700, no doubt about that. It's just when you start to really push them, the power supply in the x2700 will take strain and not deliver enough current to drive them properly. The signal will start clipping and can potentially damage your tweeters. It's...

    Solar basics and automation

:ROFLMAO: Absolutely! I think what most people don't realise when they first install their solar system is that (eg. for an 8kW system) it's not gonna pump 8kW all day long, it'll vary with the load that you put on it. The panels work in much the same way as your Eskom supply. If you want to...

    Supplying into grid in Jub

Depending on your meter, it might disconnect your Eskom supply, or charge you for the power you're feeding back. Seems like many digital meters installed in JHB can't determine (or have been set by City Power not to determine) the direction of flow. The old analogue spinning disc meters spin...

    Solar basics and automation

Excellent post Naboo, It'll help those who are thinking of running into the minefield that is solar. (y) A couple of observations, I'll chime in. Generators do produce a true sine wave, however, the output frequency and voltage varies with the load, so it's not a very clean output. If say a...

    Yamaha or Bentley Acoustics

Definitely worth looking into, @BiZKiT is close to you, ask him for a demo so that you can audition the Bentleys and compare before shelling out for them. I see the X2700 doesn't have pre-outs for a power amp, so I'd recommend the FS-120s over the FS-150s. The FS-150s really need a power amp to...

Really understanding the difference between 5kw and 8kw system

Hubbles with older firmware had issues with charging to 100% on Sunsynks and possibly other inverters. Just be sure to ask the installer to upgrade the firmware before he installs them.
