Another DIY targa home sub build

Well, you have a pretty decent reference to compare your DIY subs to.

Another DIY targa home sub build

    (y) Use silicon or contractor's acrylic to seal the joints. I prefer acrylic over silicon as it's cheaper and is easily cleaned with a wet cloth.

Another DIY targa home sub build

Absolutely. My Targa Viper DIY sub is 150L and it simmed pretty much exactly as @DeonC 's sim. True measurements were Fs=18Hz and F3=16.5Hz, so you might even gain a couple of Hz when you build it. Sealed subs are also excellent if properly designed, but need some DSP and big power to go down...

LG OLED C2 48" as a PC Monitor

Wow!!! Yup, because the 3080 is such a slouch!!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Incredible setup you have there, pretty much the pinnacle of video gaming. (y)

    Car amplifiers for home hifi?

Yup, absolutely possible, car amps can often be found for very little money if you're willing to shop around. However, car amps come with a few caveats. 1. They need a high current 12V power supply. Old PC power supplies are normally perfect for the job, however, depending on the power output...

    Resurrecting blown subwoofers

Excellent post Shonver! (y) Your experiences are very similar to mine. The old (probably 20 odd years now) AR VPXS12 12" subs that I had, had classic through hole class AB power amps, op-amp preamps and torroid power supplies in their plate amps. Nice and easy to work with, had very little...

    JHB Cable Listening Experiment

I think solar cable will make excellent speaker cable, 4mm^2 or 6mm^2 is nice and thick. Generally solar cable has very robust sheathing and also doesn't cost a fortune.

Linux with all it's pain and glory

A 3rd gen i5 with 8GB RAM will easily handle the latest Ubuntu without issue. For desktop/gaming use, you can't go wrong with Ubuntu, it does most stuff automatically, such as installing drivers, mounting HDDs etc. You don't have to pull up the terminal much with Ubuntu, it's definitely one of...

When to get a bigger centre speaker and bigger rear surrounds? (Bentley FC100 vs FC150 and FR50 vs FR80)

Can assure you @bbe22 wasn't being condescending, he was trying to give you the best advice. bbe22 and Timber_MG really know what they are talking about, Timber has designed and built world class systems for studios and cinemas, it'd be wise to listen to their advice.

    Sunflowers Redux build

    (y) I'd love to swing by and have a listen, I'll bring my HK Citation 7.1 power amp and you can test.

Which UHD - Samsung or LG

Nope, certainly not at the moment. 8K is in it's infancy, rather wait another, probably 5 years or so, until it becomes mainstream. I'm sure a similar situation will occur with early 8k adopters, that happened with early 4K adopters, ATMOS/DTS-X and HDR weren't available at the time, so the...

Help need onkyo av amp checked, or...

Yup, good advice, at least then you'll be able to determine if it's the processing/pre-amp section or the power amp section of the AVR that's faulty. Hopefully it's the power amp section as that's generally easier to repair than the processing section.

    Sunflowers Redux build

Absolutely stunning!! (y) Works of art. I'm sure you must feel a real sense of achievement with your effort. Do they sound as good as they look?

    Wolla's Solar Hybrid Install

Nice! (y) Looking good. I assume the installer sorted out the issue that was causing the strange readings? I've set my batteries to discharge from about 2AM, the reason for this is that in case there's load shedding in the evening whilst everyone is still awake, the batteries are full. I...

    Wolla's Solar Hybrid Install

There does seem to be an issue on the second "System Flow Chart" image you posted (Sorry, haven't worked out how this multi quote thing works on the new BBS software yet) You're generating 85W from the panels, but using 626W on the UPS side. The panels (if not at their maximum output) will...

    Wolla's Solar Hybrid Install

The other possibility is that all your loads have been connected to the UPS side, so there's no power being drawn from the non-essential side.

    Wolla's Solar Hybrid Install

edit: Had a good look at the pic, all looks fine, depending on how the installer set up the inverter. The loads connected to the UPS side are using 535W of the power generated by the panels and the excess (2612W) is charging your batteries. No power is going to non-essential loads (The house...

    The Me Too Solar Thread

Nice setup! 2 x 8kW inverters is a lot. Are you running everything off the essential load side or do you have the CT installed for zero export grid tie?

    Bentley>Klipsch

Congrats on your new FS150s! They are huge and those dual 8" woofers certainly do pump out the bass. I moved mine from the HT to the stereo setup now as a sub is no longer needed for music. They are very easy to drive, my NAD C320 can play them happily at moderate levels. However a decent...

LG OLED C2 48" as a PC Monitor

Nice! (y) The LG TVs seem to have a really good PC mode. The pixels are properly matched 1:1, so text etc is super crisp, just as on a PC monitor. I have the LG UM7500 (nowhere near as good as your OLED) using a PC as the media player and it's really decent. Far better than any other TV I've...
