    Whats on the TT...

Next up, fresh in from Japan , is this old favourite of mine. My previous copy was stolen / liberated at a house party in Umbilo, Durban some time in the early 80’s, but now it has, finally, been replaced. (I hope you hung onto, and have enjoyed my record, Cheryl ). Anyway, controversial...

SL1200 Turntable are they worth it

You asked for "thoughts", and you are certainly getting them! I also have some thoughts on this - treat them as you should treat all others  Firstly, don't think that a Technics SL1200 or SL1210 (black) is not an excellent turntable - they are. (Audiophile? Who can really say what...

    Your holy grail LP album

Your post really made me think about this. Currently I am not looking for anything! Almost unbelievable... Last four albums I hunted for for many years, and were lucky enough to get all four during the last 4 or 7 years: 1. Jazz at the Pawn Shop, bought in Singapore; 2. Melody Gardot - Live in...

    Refurbishment of a turntable lid

Nothing wrong with using an electric sander, if done right. I have bought a 2nd hand Ryobi for next to nothing, and use from 800 up to about 2000 water paper, progressively. However, I do sand WET! The lid is kept very wet, and the Ryobi has not blown up yet (about 30 lids later) but I must...

New Restoration Project - Radford K25 valve monoblocks

I agree. It is going to be more of a restoration than a renovation (and absolutely not a "revision", as our European friends like to call their work) but electronically I will use the latest caps and resistors and rectifier diodes where indicated. I will start with a lightly-oiled rag rub on...

New Restoration Project - Radford K25 valve monoblocks

How do people clean light surface rust off of metal transformer laminations? My standard method for other metal surfaces is 1200 grit wet and dry sandpaper and a light oil. Not sure if this is advisable for transformers? Asking all the other expert renovators and restorers out there!

New Restoration Project - Radford K25 valve monoblocks

The one monoblock is missing its carry handle (and very convenient and protective "upside-down" rest). I have made a temporary handle from 8mm threaded rod with an aluminium tube around the top part so that I can pick it up and rest it upside down. But if anyone has such a handle, I would be...

New Restoration Project - Radford K25 valve monoblocks

Hi Charles, no, I do not have a Radford preamplifier. But I have various DIY as well as re-purposed QUAD and Leak preamps that I am using on some of my valve power amps. Noted on your EF86 substitution - will keep that in mind. I do however quite like the EF86 (y) Yes, the Revox machines are...

New Restoration Project - Radford K25 valve monoblocks

Thank you, Charles, and everyone else - I am going to take my time (there are 3 x Revox A77 machines ahead of these on the workbench!) but I am really looking forward to having them up and running 1H2025 and experiencing the Radford magic! Until then - whatever you like, enjoy the music!
