@Rsim Thanks, will only get to it in a couple of weeks once I'm back from holidays. But I'm just looking at the amp modules again now, specifically the latest replacement (June 2024), and not impressed by the work:

Ah, ok. Tried this - I made sure the sub was firing on 50Hz, then hooked up an RCA cable to each of the sub pre-outs. I'm not picking up any readings, but like I said, I don't really know what I'm doing, and I don't think my multimetre is very good.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking, but I need to measure the sub pre-out voltage to confirm - my ears could be deceiving me. I tried with my el-cheapo multimetre, but I don't know what I'm doing and I think it's sensitive enough - from Googling, it seems like the sub pre-out should be putting out...

I'm going to have to source a 4-5m long RCA cable from somewhere to test that it's not the wireless transmitter. I suspect it's not that, as I've switched the sub to stay permanently on, but right now I'm playing a thumping song and zero sub output even though it is on. If I turn up the sub...

Please fault my logic here Hypothesis: Accoring to this chap, the T778's SW output dips by 10dB after +-10 min of being switched on. For these tests, I am running the final battle scene from The Expanse, which features massive repeated explosions. The SVS PB-1000 has a Standby time of 20 min...

I think this is the problem:

Unfortunately I can't as the sub is too far away & across a hallway from the T778. I've been using the SVS wireless transmitter, I've resynched these as well, no change.

Something is definitely funky with the subwoofer output without the amp modules present: I've boosted the sub levels to +17dB in my Dirac filter, and still it's not triggering during loud explosions... Any ideas/suggestions on how to resolve this?

Haha, yeah, a lifetime of working in software support will do that to you! That last part is why I am sticking with it!

There are actually three different versions in mine. If you look the dates (sorry, they're upside down): two 2019 original from the factory build, two 2021 from when the surround amps failed in 2021, and one 2022 updated one when the F/R failed earlier this year.

I made a short video of the heatsink removal:

You are so right on this : unbelievable how stupid whoever coded this is - the temperature readings for the amp modules are missing, so they default it to some random reading instead of 'N/A', 'Sensor Missing', 'Unavailable', etc.!?

And as a reward for my efforts, the sub pre-out seems to be timing out after a few minutes: I'm watching The Expanse, and even massive explosions are not triggering the sub. On previous nights the sub would almost never go into standby when watching it.

Haha, thanks, not sure if brave or stupid, or bit of both. I think I will get Emil's help to test the amp modules, that's a project for next year.

Visually I cannot see what the problem is, usually the caps are bloated

Thanks for the offer, but I would first have to sell off this p.o.s T778 & the 525, and I don't see anyone buying the former.

I've got my Oppo 203, it's more than capable of replacing the T778 for now - and with Roon I can stream all my stuff to it

The light goes red (not orange) when it switched itself off, which indicates a problem: I disconnected everything and left it off for the night, still the same issue this morning. It is placed on top of my AV stand, well ventilated. First thing I checked was the temperature, no amp was above...

FFS! Now my T778 is just switching itself off, and refusing to come back on, even after a hard power off 😬
